The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation)
is the central, self-governing research funding organisation
that promotes research at universities and other publicly
financed research institutions in Germany.
The DFG serves all branches of science and the humanities
by funding research projects and facilitating cooperation
among researchers.
DFG Opens Office in New York
(4 October 2007) The opening of the DFG’s office in New York by Professor Matthias Kleiner, DFG President, was attended by 140 invited guests from the fields of politics, science and business. With its new office, located within sight of the United Nations, the DFG seeks to strengthen its contacts to North American and Canadian universities and researchers.
GAIN Annual Meeting Motivates Young Researchers to Return to Germany
(25 September 07) "The opportunities for young scientists and academics in Germany have never been better than they are now" was the general tone at this year’s annual meeting organised by the German Academic International Network (GAIN) in San Francisco, which was attended by about 230 young German scientists and academics. High-ranking representatives from the fields of politics and science had travelled from Germany to the West Coast of the United States to encourage young German academics currently working in the USA and Canada to return home to Germany.
Farewell Ceremony Marks Grunwald’s Retirement
(07 September 07) A farewell ceremony held at the Redoute in Bonn on Monday marked the retirement of the long-serving Secretary General of the DFG, Dr. Reinhard Grunwald. Politicians and scientists paid tribute to his achievements.
