Freeview allows you to receive over 30 free digital TV channels, plus radio and interactive services, through your normal TV aerial. There is no contract, just a one-off payment for a set top box.
You can also access a version of our website by pressing red whilst listening to Radio 1.
Changes to Radio 1 on Freeview - from 3 October 2007
You may need to re-tune your set top box, or integrated Digital TV, in order to receive Radio 1 and other BBC Radio stations (this does not affect Virgin Media).
Your instruction manual should tell you how to do this. But, here are some basic steps that may help you re-tune:
1. To begin, turn on your Freeview Digital TV channels.
2. Press 'menu', or equivalent, on your handset.
3. The next step depends on your type of TV. From your set up menu, select either 'update', 'retune', 'rescan', 'replace', 'tuning' or 'store channels'.
4. On some integrated digital TV sets you may now need to select 'auto setup' or 'auto update'.
5. The TV now warns you that this may change your current channel list - this is OK. Select 'continue'. This begins a search for channels and may take around 5 minutes.
There is more information at BBC Reception or you can call 08700 10 10 10 (national rates).
This move is part of Digital Switchover in the UK. BBC Radio 1, 2, 3 and 4 are moving to another Freeview broadcast multiplex in order to work towards the switch over.
If you have a dish you can listen to Radio 1 on digital satellite television. Find us in the radio section of your electronic programme guide.
If you have digital cable TV then you can listen on Virgin TV.
