Ideas for using PrayKids!® in a Group Setting:

PrayKids!® is designed to be useable in a variety of ways. We have been careful not to time date the material. Each issue of PrayKids!® can be used at any time of the year, in any setting. Remember, you are free to make copies of the leader’s guide so each teacher or facilitator has a copy.

Here are some helpful suggestions for using PrayKids!® magazine with a group of children.

When might I use the entire magazine at one time?

  • If you have a setting where you have 1-2 hours with the children.
  • Some churches have special prayer events for adults and want to provide something for kids on the topic of prayer.
  • Missions conferences are a great tie-in with the "What in the World" section.
  • Children’s church is a nice setting to use the magazine. Even though the target audience is 8-12 year olds, churches have been successful using it with kids ranging in age from 5-13.
  • You can also use the issue as the curriculum for one Sunday school class. Select the Sunday that you hand the issue out to your children. That week in class, highlight several articles: Bible story, lead article, or the article by or about a child. Then use one activity that has the kids pray.

What if I don’t have time to use the entire magazine at one time?

  • Many churches have reported using only one section or article each week to supplement the Sunday school curriculum. They present a 5 to 15 minute section on prayer each week. Using PrayKids!® this way gives you 8-10 weeks of material.
  • When adults meet for prayer meeting, some churches take the children and use one or two articles (for 30 minutes) each week. This stretches PrayKids!® for 5 weeks.

Practical tips for using PrayKids!®

  • Pass out PrayKids!® to each child. Ask for a child volunteer to read a story or article. Remember, children can be very sensitive about their reading ability and they shouldn’t be put in a situation where they have to read aloud if they aren’t comfortable. After a story or article is read, look at the leader’s guide for additional ideas or discussion questions. Time suggestions are given to help you plan your way through PrayKids!®
