First, you need to admit that you are a sinner. God is perfect and holy. Sin is anything we think, say or do that is less than God's perfection. It's just like a target with God's holiness as the bulls-eye in the center. Any kind of sin keeps us from hitting the bulls-eye.
Romans 3:23
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

Who has sinned?

 

Next, you need to know that sin has a consequence (end result). According to this verse, what is the end result of sin? Even one sin will keep us from God and have the same end result.
Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

What is the wages (payment or end result) for sin?

 

But God loved us so much He made a way for us to live forever with Him in heaven!
Romans 5:8
" While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

God sent His son, Jesus, to take our place. What did Christ do for us?

 

Guess what? Jesus took the death punishment for our sin so that we don't have to be separated from God any more. It was His free gift to us. All we have to do is believe it and accept His gift.
Romans 10:9
"That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

How can you be saved according to this verse?

 

As soon as you have believed and accepted Jesus as Lord of your life, you are one of God's children!
John 1:12
" . . .to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God."

Who has the right to become a child of God?

Jesus, I agree with You that I am a sinner. I have done and said things that were wrong. I know that the Bible says that sin has to be punished. I believe that You came to earth to take my punishment for sin. I believe that You took my place-that You died, were buried and rose again for my sins. I accept that as a free gift from You. I choose to turn from my sin and I choose to live for You. I invite You to come live in me and be Lord of my life. Thank You, Jesus! Thank You for making me a child of God! Amen.
