Pray!®, Issue 43 - Jul/Aug 2004

Inspiration, information, and instruction to boost your prayer power
|
Pastors and their families are on the front lines in the war against the enemy. Without our concentrated prayers, they sit in a very vulnerable position as they serve the body of Christ. This issue of Pray!® not only encourages more prayer for pastors, but gives practical insights and helpful tools to do this more effectively. H.B. London of Focus on the Family, Dee Duke, and Jill Briscoe are among the contributing authors. Also in this issue, how to pray "right on the mark," and an article on turning your personal suffering into an opportunity for worldwide intercession.

Whole Issue A Blessing
How much our pastors need our prayers! When I see young people in particular in positions of spiritual power and influence, my heart is stirred to pray for them to remain faithful. I pray also that the older pastors will finish well, not burned out or tempted to give up before receiving the prize. Dee Duke's article testified of the power of prayer to change not only his church but his own life as God gave him a heart for people that he'd never had before. How reassuring that God will work in my own heart and life! Arlyn Lawrence article about praying on target reminded me of an experience I had recently. I've been convicted lately that when I think of someone over and over, that's God, telling me I should pray for them. One person had been on my mind and I began lifting her up in prayer. Soon I called her to tell her I'd been praying for her. Her husband's father had just died and her step-daughter was having a lung removed. A week later I called her again and asked her to go on a walk with me though it had been several years since we'd walked together. She asked, "Why did you call me?" I wasn't sure at first, except just that it entered my head that I wanted to. But we prayed together after our walk as we used to do, her tears fell, and she faltered, "Maybe God DOES love me after all..." Then I knew that it was a divine appointment--and God was right on target! This issue's classic inspired me again with the primary need for communion with God for any real progress in the work of revival. I love his last paragraph: "The greatest investment we can make in the lives of those we love is to intercede for them in prayer. The greatest investment we can make in the life of the church is persistent, prevailing prayer on its behalf. What no amount of human effort, ingenuity, or preaching could ever accomplish, God can do, and He will do it in response to our prayers." Amen!
