Prayer Tapestry: The Richness of the Corporate Experience
by NavPress |
There's something about supportive, hope-filled atmospheres that frees people to pray in ways they've never prayed before.
|
While praying on our own is certainly a vital aspect of our relationship with God, praying with others is an equally crucial—though often neglected—component of Christian life and ministry. "Where two or more are gathered in my name," Jesus promised, "I am there in their midst" (Mt. 18:20). When the early church gathered together for prayer, buildings shook and the Word of God was sent out with boldness (Acts 4:31). Corporate prayer can be powerful business!
In this issue, we explore the reasons why corporate prayer—praying together with other believers—is so necessary, both for individuals and for the body of Christ at large.
You'll read about...
"Sound the Trumpet: Assembling the Troops for Prayer"—In Bible times, the nation of Israel was called together for prayer in times of battle or disaster by the sound of a trumpet. In such times, praying alone or in families was not an option: the whole nation was expected to assemble. You will learn what this principle and practice means for God’s people today, and be encouraged at what God might do in your own church or other faith community through corporate prayer.
"The Proximity Factor: Ways to Spark Your Church Prayer Meeting"—Praying together necessitates that we pray—together! A fire made up of individual logs doesn’t burn very well; it’s when the logs are in close proximity to each other that they burn the hottest. In this article, you’ll glean practical ideas for bringing people together in ways that will ignite powerful corporate prayer.
"That Times of Refreshing May Come: The Restoring Power of Corporate Repentance"—Scripture promises that time of refreshing will come from the presence of the Lord when we repent. Learn why repentance is such a valuable component of corporate prayer, and how when we embrace it, the fresh wind of the Holy Spirit brings restoration and refreshment into our midst.
Also in this theme section, you’ll read about how to create an environment that welcomes the Holy Spirit, as well as how to stimulate an appetite for corporate prayer by not "filling up" on the wrong kinds of things.
Also in this issue...
"My First Fast: How God Introduced Me to a New Prayer Tool"—Read about one woman’s discovery of fasting as a spiritual discipline, and how it deepened her prayer life and brought her new intimacy with God.
"Pass It On: Raising Children Who Pray"—Learn 10 practical ways to incorporate prayer into your family’s daily routine so that your children can be equipped for a lifestyle of prayer. You’ll also discover "Prayer Principles for Parents" that will give you more fuel to fire your family’s prayer life.
"Weeping with God: Turning Our Tears into Prayers" and "The Sum of All Tears"—These two articles will remind you that weeping is a valid expression of God’s character, and a tangible expression of His compassion. Learn how weeping in prayer shouldn’t be considered a sign of weakness, but rather a demonstration of strength, and of a heart the mirrors God’s own.
PrayKids!: Spiritual Warfare
From the moment we receive Jesus as our Savior, we enter into a battle. Scripture tells us that we need to be constantly on the alert (1 Pet. 5:8), and reminds us that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the forces of darkness in heavenly places (Eph. 6:12). In this issue, children will learn that the Christian life puts them squarely in a war between good and evil. They will also learn that they have the authority and all the weapons necessary to WIN!
