The Juneau Empire, which is celebrating it's 90th year of publication, is at the forefront of coverage regarding local and state government, mining, Native issues and regional affairs. With a daily circulation of 7,400 and a Sunday circulation above 8,000, the Empire's penetration is more than 70 percent, serving the capital city and surrounding communities as the state's third largest newspaper.

The Juneau Empire is published Sunday through Friday, except holidays, by Morris Communications Corporation, 3100 Channel Drive, Juneau, Alaska, 99801. Weekly special sections include This Week, an an arts & enternatinment section on Thursdays, Outdoors, an in-depth outdoor activities features section on Sundays, Neighbors, a community news section which runs on Wednesdays and Fridays, and Business Spotlight, which runs on Wednesdays.

Other major publications include the Juneau Guide, a 150,000-circulation tabloid aimed at tourism, and the 120,000-circulation Marine Highway News, which covers the state's ferry system; a 40,000-circulation "Survival Kit" to the Legislature, featuring information about each Legislative session.

Juneau is the capital city of Alaska and is home to about 30,000 people. It is located in Southeast Alaska and is the third-largest city in the state. As a regional hub, Juneau is the center for medical, business, government and shopping for the area. It also is the largest city in Alaska's Panhandle, a vast coastal rainforest and island archipelago stretching more than 500 miles.

JuneauAlaska.com initially launched in spring of 1998 as a tourism site for the Juneau area. It was re-built as a Juneau city portal in Spring of 2000 by the Morris Digital Works web content development team and the Empire's web staff. This effort won the site the coveted Newspaper Association of America "Edgie" award, in the category of best Regional or City Guide for newspapers with circulation under 75,000. In 2002, it was further focused as a visitor guide.
