A service of Catholic Charities' Family & Children's Ministries

A child's success in school can never be guaranteed, but Catholic Charities has been making a difference at Catholic elementary school in the Archdiocese since 1988. The School-Based Counseling services provide students with the necessary support to cope with the stresses and anxieties that often hinder academic study.

Catholic Charities' School-Based Counselors provide individual counseling and support to students to explore and resolve emotional and/or behavioral issues that interfere with the student's ability to achieve academically or socially.

Essential Functions of School-Based Counselor:

Provide individual counseling for students referred by school staff, parents or self-referral, with the infomed consent of the parent/guardian.

Provide student social development skills in the classroom and group work by collaborating with and involving school staff, family members, and community resources.

Assist school staff in identification and early evaluation process to meet exceptional educational needs of specific students.

Provide small group counseling opportunities when and where appropriate.

Provide consultation support services for school faculty regarding problem classroom behaviors or attitudes.

Catholic Charities' School-Based counselors are currently at:

  • St. Katherine Drexel, Beaver Dam
  • St. John the Baptist, Plymouth
  • Christ Child Academy, Sheboygan
