Games Convention award noms named

Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 receives only multiplatform nomination in German trade show's "Best of GC" awards.

Representatives from this week's Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, have announced their "Best of GC" nominees today. To be eligible for nomination, entries must be in a playable state and present at the convention. Category winners will be announced August 24.

Eschewing any genre-based honors, the Games Convention jury simply broke down its categories by best overall experience on each individual platform. The platform awards were further augmented by online gaming and hardware nominees. In all, more than 25 different games were nominated in the 11 different categories.

Surprisingly, Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 walked away with the only multiplatform nomination at the European event. The latest iteration in the long-running soccer sim series was nominated on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation 2.

However, several games received a nod in multiple categories, including Flagship Studios' Hellgate: London and Splash Damage's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars receiving acclaim in both the PC and online categories. Otherwise, the award nominations were disbursed fairly evenly over the many upcoming big-name titles.

A complete list of nominees from this year's Game Convention is list below.

What's so surprising that a soccer game walked away with a multi platform nomination in EUROPE. Considering soccer is really popular there and is the most played sport in the world. ( It is an awesome game BTW.)

It still makes me laugh that Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games is real. I remember when everyone accused the main web page of fakery when it first came out. XD

That list is pretty crappy. I only see 4 or 5 notable games. But hey this Germany. And I'm not sure what is happening in their game market. because it must be different from the rest of the world.

Quake wars is also coming to Mac. They never post that any game that is coming to the mac platform, but wii fit should prove interesting, just imagine you can have a skating game that uses the board.
