"Hands Up" was released as the second single from TLC's final album 3D. According to the song's 12" vinyl promo single, the album version of the song was originally recorded in 1999. The video was directed by Matthew Rolston. The video also guest stars Countess Vaughn. The single failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, however, it charted in the UK where it received a limited 12" vinyl commercial release [1].

A remix featuring Jermaine Dupri was recorded. Dupri's rap verses contains interpolations of "Nasty Boy" by The Notorious B.I.G..
