Harm Promotion Overview Overview Healthy Alternatives How to Talk to Your Kids About Drugs Raves and Paraphernalia Drug Victimization Warning Signs If you Suspect Your Child Has a Drug Problem

Since 46 percent of teenagers reported this year that they have used drugs, it is a challenge today to raise healthy, drug free children. The availability of drugs coupled with the peer pressure teenagers face would lead one to think drug use, or at least drug experimentation, is inevitable, but it is not. Drug use is not a normal part of adolescence and abstinence is feasible if you start talking with your children about the repercussions of drug use at an early age.

Drug Free America Foundation developed their Family Guide section to be used as an effective tool to encourage parents to reinforce positive, no-use messages and establish fun, healthy alternatives to drugs. A recent study by CASA Columbia has found that teens from families that rarely eat dinner together were 72 percent likelier than the average teen to use illegal drugs, cigarettes and alcohol, while those from families that almost always eat dinner together were 31 percent less likely than the average teen to engage in these activities. Family togetherness is the number one preventive to drug use.

Drug Free America Foundation would like to invite parents and other concerned adults to participate in a family dinner every Thursday night. It's easy! We'll provide the recipe and you provide the family.
