Students Taking Action Not Drugs (STAND) was founded in 1999 by university students world-wide concerned about the spread of drug abuse on college campuses. STAND’s mission is to use science-based principles in educating college students about the danger of drugs and reduce drug use among 18-25 year olds.
What We Do
STAND delivers on its mission by recruiting students from campuses to disseminate anti-drug information to their peers by using a free, integrated online and offline approach consisting of an official moderated website (www.studentstakingaction.org) and marketing materials.
The purpose of STAND is to recruit students on campuses to deliver these anti-drug messages and in turn to change attitudes and behaviors. A group of marketing and prevention specialists develops the campaigns and assists members with strategy and implementation.
Officials of STAND and its parent organization, Drug Free America Foundation, visit campuses to educate peer leaders about STAND and encourage them to take an active role in disseminating this life-saving information. STAND also provides scholarship and travel opportunities for peer leaders who are especially motivated and inspired by our mission.
About Our Programs
STAND website: An Educational tool providing students with a wealth of scientific information and facts on drug abuse. Also provides those dealing with addiction issues resources for getting help.
Marketing Campaign: Printed marketing materials designed to educate college students on the dangers of drug use. Campaigns are distributed twice a year through campus housing or posted by STAND chapters in various locations on campus.
STAND also distributes a quarterly newsletter for chapters entitled FOCUS that keep students updated on the best ways to reach their campus with the prevention message. There are also various opportunities for students to attend national conferences and trainings.
