17-20 October 2007 – Houston, Texas. The Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas (ASPO) 2007 World Oil Conference deals with imminent end of cheap oil and gas as the world's oil production reaches "peak pumpage" while world-wide demand for energy climbs. The ASPO conference will feature a number of prominent energy experts, including pioneer oilman T. Boone Pickens; Bob Hirsch, co-author of the groundbreaking Hirsch-Bezdek Report to DOE; Peter Tertzakian, author of A Thousand Barrels a Second; Matthew Simmons, author of Twilight in the Desert: The Coming Saudi Oil Shock; and many other experts, including a presentation by transportation energy researcher Alan Drake, who points out that an aggressive program of electrification of America's freight railways and the rapid expansion of electrified urban rail systems could reduce US oil consumption by 10% in ten to twelve years. (See: A 10% Reduction in America's Oil Use in Ten to Twelve Years Location: Hilton Americas Hotel in Downtown Houston, 1600 Lamar, Houston, Texas 77010, USA.

10-11 November 2007 – Dallas, Texas. The 5th International Conference of the Rail Users' Network will focus on ways to deliver the highest quality service to customers, while planning for the future. A wide variety of information will be provided by a distinguished list of speakers, as well as interactive workshops, which will range from planning rail systems of the future, to highlighting the new starts that have taken root all over the country, to focusing on the inequities that exist in some of North America's largest transit systems. Participants can learn why some areas have great service, while areas of similar population densities do not. Participants can also learn how new transit systems have helped boost the economies of cities, why more cities should want them, and why long-term planning is essential if outstanding customer service is the goal. Both Friday and Sunday afternoon can be used to sample the great variety of rail transportation in and around Dallas, including the Trinity Rail Express (TRE) regional passenger rail ("commuter rail") line, DART light rail transit system, and the McKinney Avenue streetcar line.
Location: Hyatt Regency Hotel adjacent to historic Union Station.
