Are You Waiting for Your 'Ifs' to Bring You Happiness?
Better health, a more successful career, a stronger marriage, and a purpose-filled life are all within your reach. Just open your Bible to Philippians 4:8.
"Philippians is one of the most practical chapters of the entire Bible. Paul says, Finally brethren, whatever is lovely, pure, true, excellent, if theres anything worthy of praise think on these things. Its short, crisp, its the truth and the very fact that he brings it up tells us that we have free will," says Tommy Newberry, Author of "The 4:8 Principle: The Secret to a Joy-Filled Life", Life Coach, and Founder of The 1% Club.
The problem is we're all used to working on a 'To-Do' list as a key to success. People tell themselves that they just need to work smarter, or manage their time better and they'll achieve their dreams. More important than a 'To-Do' list is a 'To-Think' list.
Tommy shares how good thoughts lead to good actions and a blessed, joy-filled life. The 4:8 Principle guides us to think about what is lovely, pure, good, wholesome, excellent, something that you would praise. It also means talk about them. You will almost automatically do what is good, because every action is preceded by your thoughts.
Proactive Strategies to Attract Good Things
1. Use the 4:8 Principle as a filter. In other words when you're on the phone, ask yourself, does this conversation pass the 4:8 test? Is it lovely, pure, gracious, and worthy of being called excellent?
2. Stop complaining and start thanking! Ive never heard a group of people saying, We ought to think about negative things, we ought to be complainers and whiners. Nobody does that, but the reality is being negative is easy and it NEVER BRINGS JOY. It takes no maturity, training, or discipline to complain, but it does to be consistently grateful...and the 4:8 Principle shows us how.
3. Don't attach joy to 'IFs.' Many people have in the back of their mind that they will be happy IF... their life is going exactly the way that they want it to go. You're setting yourself up for a lack of joy, for stress and frustration and unhappiness 'IF' things in your path have to be great for you to be happy.
Try these techniques out and you'll become a success magnet, drawing out the best in the people and circumstance around you, plus attracting ever more blessings for yourself.
