Break Away from the Public Speaking Myths

"One thing that maintains public speaking anxiety is the many myths out there," says Larina Kase, co-author of The Confident Speaker

The problem is that many people get nervous about public speaking. They feel their heart pounding and palms sweating. This nervousness makes them believe that they cannot speak in public.

Anxiety: Friend or Foe?

The truth is that anxiety is needed to perform well. It helps you come across as motivated and energetic. Nervousness keeps you on your toes, so you actually make a better presentation.

The trick is to keep the level of anxiety at a reasonable level. This can be done through thorough preparation, and realistic expectations.
� Work on your self-image and self-awareness. Dress appropriately for the occasion. You have to start with yourself to project the best image to the audience.
� Rehearsal is a must when preparing for a public presentation. Do not avoid rehearsing because it makes you anxious to think about your speech. Rehearse in front of a mirror and practice tone, hand movement and expression.
� Connect with your audience. Speak to them in simple English to get your message across. Do not speak down to them.

Follow these keen insights to overcome the myths and misconceptions with regard to public speaking. Become a confident speaker by putting this realistic approach into action.
