On December 2, 2007, people of Southeastern Wisconsin will honor four Wisconsin and Illinois natives, martyred in Central America:
- 25 years ago, Brother James Miller from Stevens Point was killed in Huehuetenango, Guatemala
- Medford, WI native Michael Cypher, OFM-Conventual, was one of fourteen killed in Olancho Honduras in 1975
- In 1990, Milwaukee native Maureen Courtney, CSA, died in an ambush in Nicaragua
- Father Guadalupe Carney, born in Chicago, was tortured and killed on the border of Nicaragua and Honduras in 1983.
The Central American Awareness Committee encourages you to come to this annual commemoration at the St. Joseph Center on Sunday, December 2, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., to pray together, listen to the stories of these four missionaries, and to reflect on their messages for us today. The event will include a special remembrance of Brother James Miller during this, his anniversary year. Before 4:30 p.m. there will be time for conversation and refreshments.
St. Joseph Center is located in the School Sisters of St. Francis Motherhouse at 1501 S. Layton Blvd (27th and Greenfield) in Milwaukee. Parking is available behind the building off 29th street.
Please download the flyer (below) to share with your office, school, parish, and community.
