I had to go back and review a film which shows a true “diva’s” power once it is truly unleashed. Annette Bening owns this role and along with a great cast makes this 2004 film an ideal film for your collection. Being Julia also proves that “old school” is hard to beat when unleashed in its true form.

The movie Pride provides a refreshing change in role for actor Terrence Howard. The film shares the admirable story of swim coach Jim Ellis. Unfortunately, the movie fails to captivate the audience due to its lackluster storyline and uneventful incidents.

The Queen, starring Academy award winner Helen Mirren, tells the story of Queen Elizabeth and the royal family in the aftermath of Princess Diana’s sudden and tragic death. The realistic portrayals and beautiful landscape add in making this Oscar nominated film fit for any queen!

One thing’s for sure: There ain’t no half-steppin in the world of stepping. If you’ve ever been to a step show and actually seen how black fraternities perform complex, choreographed routines, you know the deal is real. And so is the hit film, Stomp the Yard.

Happiest of New Year greetings to all! I wanted to start off January 2007 with a review of a movie that renewed my faith in African American fatherhood; The Pursuit of Happyness. The film is so inspiring the real Chris Gardner appeared on Oprah to talk about it and congratulate Will Smith. It really is a must see everyone.

Director Tony Scott and Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington unite for the third time with Déjà Vu, a film where Denzel stars as ATF Agent Doug Carlin, a man with the innate ability to find the most hidden clues from crime scenes, clues that others might overlook. 

If there ever was a person who personified a gay diva, Truman Capote deserves that crown and more. Given the riveting contradictions in Truman Capote’s character, the rich range of people who made up his circle, and the comic and dramatic turns that marked the period, the real wonder is that there were only two scripts. 

The movie Fire is the story of Sita and Radha, young Indian women whose husbands chose celibacy or mistresses over their wives.  The two women become friends and grow closer together, forming a forbidden but liberating relationship.  A lush, passionate story of emancipation and love, in a closed society.

Another Gay Movie takes a humorous look at four gay friends who are graduating from high school. Before they head off for college they make a pact to lose their virginity before the end of the summer. What ensues is a bright, candy-colored parade of tryin’ to get some scenarios. 

If you still haven’t seen the comedy The Devil Wears Prada, you need to get your fashion-challenged butt to the theatre. The movie is hilariously funny and has more than enough sharp witted comments to keep you entertained. Streep is at her best.
