Environmental Performance Index

The Environmental Performance Index (EPI) is a method of quantifying and numerically scaling the environmental performance of a set of companies or countries. It is being developed from the ESI by Yale University (Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy). As of June, 2007 one report has been released - the Pilot 2006 Environmental Performance Index. The top three countries were New Zealand, Sweden and Finland.

A diverse set of measures are used to determine several factors which set the EPI score. Factors are divided into two Broad Objectives, which are divided into policy categories and indicators.[1]

On 26 January 2006 Yale (YCELP) and Columbia University (CIESIN) released the Pilot 2006 Environmental Performance Index at the World Economic Forum. It was done in collaboration with the World Economic Forum and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission.
