[edit] FYI, credit where credit is due.

Dear Thomas,

Please note the exchange below. It is relevant to your entry for Beth Edmonds. I thought it would interest you.

All the Best, Mitch

Dear Roger,

I appreciate the credit, but it is only indirectly due to me at best. I did reference Beth as a "Notable Inhabitant" of Freeport, Maine in April of 2006. That was my contribution, and then Thomas McMillan (who I do not know personally, only as a wikipedia editor) came along and created a page for Beth Edmonds to link to the Freeport entry in July of 2006.

Wikipedia is quite sensitive to bias, and where edits are coming from based on IP addresses. Corrections to politicians wiki entries from IP addresses of their staff are generally frowned upon (although quite common I understand).

http://www.wired.com/politics/onlinerights/news/2007/08/wiki_tracker

... is an article on the topic that my interest you.

I do believe people who are searching for information on local politicians should be able to find it on Wikipedia.

All the Best, Mitch

Hi Mitch,

On a recent Google search I came across the Wikipedia entry about Beth Edmonds. She tells me you helped set it up. Greatly appreciated! Earlier this summer I did some updating and will probably keep an eye on it as the future unfolds. Here's what I did: Added photo of Sen. Edmonds sourced to myself as photographer, deleted reference to Congressional possibility, revised links to other websites.

Again - thanks for your help.

[edit] Simba Makoni

It looks like someone moved the stub template to the article space, without adding any content. Something vaguely similar seems to have happened with the -bio- template. I've no idea what they were up to, or thought they were up to... Are there any more templates that should/did feed into those categories? Alai 17:31, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

What previous article? There was no content, unless it got moved to some other revision history (or's been "oversighted", for some bizarre reaonon). Alai 16:30, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Zanzibar and Africa in topic template

Hello I don't want to discount Zanzibarian nationalism nor the unique history of Zanzibar, but if it is included, then why not the Rif, Orange Free State, Cabinda, Biafra, etc.? -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 15:11, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Statehood While it is true that Zanzibar was once a state, that is also the case for dozens and dozens of territories within Africa; to add all of them to the template would be impossible. -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 22:25, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Puntland, etc. The territories of Somalis are on the map because they are actually self-governing (not as autonomous entities in federacies, but like sovereign states.) Your point is well-taken, though. We should probably carry on this discussion at the talk page of the template itself. -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 01:13, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] History of Zanzibar

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article History of Zanzibar, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. I got the information from the book 'Rough Crossings' and Cassandra Pybus's book. Sorry all I know for sure that Peters was an African-American whether born in North Carolina or Nigeria. I would also like to point out that Peters and his descendants (he had seven children) now make the 7% Creole elite of Sierra Leone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikiaddict8962 (talkcontribs) 15:53, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Black Loyalist/African American Loyalist

For this category I believe the term 'African American Loyalists' should be used as the category heading and also as the name of the article. I have researched many different sources and there is no doubt Black Loyalists were not Nova Scotians but were in fact Black Americans; most of them coming from our Southern United States. African American Loyalist better defines the ethnicity and does not broadly term all blacks as loyalists. The term I am recommending is one which has been used by others. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikiaddict8962 (talkcontribs) 18:23, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] == Malawi New Pages ==

Hi there; I have been patrolling NewPages today and I noticed you were creating many one-line "articles" about Malawi politicians, some of whom seemed to have served but a very short while and have nothing else of note about them on the page. Your edit summaries refer to a "main page". I have gone loooking, but can't seem to find the source. It would help me to be able to look at the main article. Could I have a link to it please? Bielle (talk) 23:58, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick response. The list at Rulers.org is not considered to be a reliable source. You may be doing a lot of work, only to have all these new pages "Speedy Deleted" because either the people are not notable or their mere existence is not reliably sourced. There are many government articles on Malawi already. Might you not be better to include these people in lists under one of them? Bielle (talk) 00:17, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
(I just had a whole paragragh disappear because the Wikipedia servers were "too busy". I shall try again.) The article Rulers.org is tagged for lacking verifiable sources. In fact, its only reference is the company's website. (I am somewhat surprised it has not been speedied itself.) Currently, your new articles have no sources listed; that's why I asked the original question. If your source is going to be a website whose own reliability cannot be verified, in spite of the claims in the article, it may not be acceptable as a source for your new pages. [edit] Notability of ambassadors

You argued in a summary of an edit to Ana Maria Teles Carreira that all ambassadors are inherently notable under WP:BIO, as they qualify as politicians who have held international office. But is that what is meant by "held international office"? I think of the latter as meaning former officials of the United Nations or League of Nations. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:51, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Certainly nobody is trying to start an edit war. I'm just trying to clarify this, as I fear that your standard would make a corps of 40-50,000 or more present, and many tens of thousands of past, ambassadors, automatically "notable" in defiance of the facts. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:25, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Alain Nkong

You reverted my edit to this article as vandalism. Please explain to me how my addition of a single word, "nomadic," to the article is vandalism. This adjective carries no negative connotations and explains Alain Nkong accurately. м info 04:03, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

No big deal, you took the meanings as a literal nomad, whereas I meant more like "well-traveled" as he has played in Africa, Europe, Asia, North America, and South America, which is very rare for a player. м info (talk) 02:34, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:AselAsleh.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 19:27, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

There is an image on Wikimedia Commons under the same that's showing through. If you need anything done to the image, you will need a Commons admin to help you. east.718 at 17:13, December 18, 2007

I took a closer look and it seems that I messed up and missed your notice that the image was your own work. Next time you fix up the description for an image, it's OK to remove the warning tag yourself. The deletion is a non-issue though, since all Wikimedia projects can use the image now. :-) east.718 at 17:16, December 18, 2007

[edit] can we stop playing pingpong?

Thomas Macmillan,

I've been working on the entry on "Zainab Bangura," the Sierra Leonean human rights advocate.

You made several editorial changes on that entry which I found helpful and went along with. But we've been going back and forth on one point: You keep making a potential entry out of "Women Organized for a Morally Englightened Nation" and I keep taking away the double parentheses [[ ]].

W.O.M.E.N. was a very transitory phenomenon in Sierra Leone and is not considered important by Sierra Leoneans themselves. Indeed, very few people even remember the existence of that organization, and I can assure you that no one will come forward to complete the entry on it. Its main importance is that it was Mrs. Bangur's first step into national politics.

But the organization that Mrs. Bangura's founded next -- the Campaign for Good Governance -- has become a longstanding institution in Sierra Leone, and therefore should be a potential Wiki entry, as you have indicated. I know this because I was living in Sierra Leone when the events described in the "Zainab Bangura" entry actually took place.

I'm going to take away the parentheses once again from the W.O.M.E.N. reference in the entry. Can we stop playing ping-pong on that point? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.126.177.251 (talk) 05:34, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Thomas Macmillian,

I've started the "Campaign for Good Governance" (CGG) entry at your suggestion.

And we're playing pingpong again.

Initially, I decided not to make potential entries out of three of the names listed in the "Campaign" entry: "Abdul Tejan-Cole," "Olayinka Creighton-Randall," and "Valnora Edwin."

But after you put the double brackets xxx on all three of them, it seemed to me that making "Abdul Tejan-Cole" an entry was justified. After Tejan-Cole was the coordinator of CGG, he went on to become a public figure in Sierra Leone. In fact, he was just recently named to head the government's Anti-Corruption Commission. So I left the brackets on Tejan-Cole.

But the other two coordinators for CGG -- Olayinka Creighton-Randall and Valnora Edwin -- are young professional people who have not yet become important figures in Sierra Leone's public life. They are just that -- young professionals.

I don't think that any encyclopedia needs an entry on every single person mentioned in its articles. And anyone who knows Sierra Leone's public life knows that Creighton-Randall and Edwin are not yet important figures in that country. Their careers are still in their early stages.

As for your bracketing the word "American" before the name "Joseph Opala," that seems very strange. That doesn't add clarification to an article on a pro-democracy NGO in Africa. I would have thought you'd be more likely to highlight phrases like "women's rights," "rule of law," etc. I think readers world-wide know what an American is.

I've changed the entry back to reflect these concerns. And I'm hoping we're not going to play pinpong again... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.126.177.251 (talk) 04:57, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Stubs

When you create stubs on political figures, could you not label them as "former" politicians unless you know that they have in fact left the political scene? To take one example, you labeled Kokou Tozoun as a "former Togolese politician and diplomat" [1] when in fact he is still very much active in politics (he was named Minister of Justice earlier this month). Another example: Roland Kpotsra, currently the Permanent Representative of Togo to the United Nations, suffered the same poor fate, condemned to retirement before his time. [2] It appears that you look a simple list of former foreign ministers and, since they aren't foreign ministers anymore, you just assume they are not active in politics or diplomacy in any other capacity. It is hard to understand why you would make that assumption, but please do a little more research when you create these stubs, or at least refrain from baseless assumptions. Also, it would be nice if you could include references with these stubs. Everyking (talk) 01:44, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

I have no idea why you take offense at my request. I'm pointing out inaccuracies that could be more easily prevented than cured. I am the one going around fixing these problems; one would think you could be a little more courteous to me about it, instead of adopting a defensive posture regarding your own errors. Everyking (talk) 01:56, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

You did it once again on Bernard Kolélas, who currently leads one of the main political parties in Congo-Brazzaville. Seriously, it's a good idea not to create an article on somebody if you don't know enough about them to say whether they're active in politics or not. Everyking (talk) 16:46, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

You're criticizing me for not properly formatting categories? You're starting out these stubs with basic inaccuracies. A person would have gone to read the article on Kolelas and immediately seen that it said he was no longer active in politics, even though he is actually one of the country's most important active politicians. You may feel that's a minor point, but to me it's very important stuff. Reading over my message from last December, I concede it was unfriendly in tone, but I just don't see how it is that you're continuing to do this. If you want, you can simply word the stubs in such a way that it doesn't assert that the person is either active or inactive. Everyking (talk) 06:39, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Ethiopia-geo-stubs

When & where was it decided that this stub was out-of-date? As a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Ethiopia, I knew nothing of this, & am somewhat miffed that no notice about this potential decision was left there. It may look as if that project is moribund, but a number of us are still on Wikipedia & actively working on articles related to Wikipedia. -- llywrch (talk) 16:40, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, migrating from the state-based to the sub-administrative-unit-based category won't work in every case here. The best example I can think of are rivers many of which cross Regional boundries, such as the Germama River which flows through the Oromia, Amhara, & Afar Regions. And if your solution to my concern is apply multiple stub-tags, I should warn you that when I find these, I often revert them to a single yet more general stub category because, frankly speaking, I find multiple stub tags are redundant, if not ugly. -- llywrch (talk) 17:01, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm seriously considering nominating Arménio Ferreira for deletion. I can find very few sources explaining why he might be notable; I don't believe that one source claiming that he was a personal physician and unofficial advisor is significant claim to notability - most national leaders are going to have personal physician, who may act as an unofficial advisor given the intimate nature of their position. I currently see little evidence that the individual meets the standards of WP:BIO, particularly in being extensively covered in independent, third party reliable sources. I don't believe that it's a language issue either, since there doesn't seem to be any foreign language Wikipedias on him. Is there something that I am missing? Cheers, CP 02:11, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Well the way I see it, an AFD is a waste of everyone's time if you haven't put a proper effort into trying to establish notability with individuals who might actually have one. In those cases, the sources usually come to the surface anyhow, so why not just have them arrive without the AFD? Anyhow, I was kind of hoping that you spoke Portuguese and could clarify those other sources, haha. Well, I'm in no rush with this at all, so maybe on the weekend I'll take a deeper look at it. For now, there's no reason to rush to deletion. Thanks for the reply! Cheers, CP 15:31, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Chatsworth Stadium

Hello. I notice you removed the prod template from Chatsworth Stadium. I'm cool with that, but now I'm trying to find some kind of concrete evidence that Chatsworth Stadium is, or rather was, the old Kings Park Soccer Stadium. I'm not sure if you're from Durban, but if you are, you will know that there is a stadium in Chatsworth, a significant distance from Kings Park, where games are still played. If, in fact there are two notable stadia in Durban called 'Chatsworth', I'll swallow my words, but I have the feeling that there in an error somewhere and that this mistake is just being accepted on WP, and any changes or attempts to change it will just be rv because it looks like I'm just trying to delete an entire article, and people don't take kindly to that. I'm happy with keeping Chatsworth Stadium, but I'd like to remove all ties with Kings Park. I'd appreciate some help trying to sort it all out. Please! GetDownAdam (talk) 15:27, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi! I agree about opening up some discussion using the AfD, and I suppose my original prod was a bit premature. I just hope that someone does know something about the Chatsworth Stadium because I get a bit peeved when an article stays a stub for years because someone once thought it was a good idea but no one really knows anything. Thanks for the input though. Its good to know there are others out there. Sometimes it feels like SA articles are neglected compared to other countries. I studied in Cape Town at UCT until last year, and no longer live there, but if you're looking for places to photograph downtown, I would recommend starting at the V&A Waterfront and taking a walk towards the Cable Car (although I wouldn't recommend you go that far!). The CTICC is a rather impressive structure and there are lots of new buildings in that area. Further up towards Long Street, there's also many older government buildings and you'll be very close to Bo-Kaap and Greenmarket Square. And from any of these places you can usually get a pretty impressive shot of Table Mountain with intersting perspective if you include some of the architecture. Also, if you're interested in some investigative reporting, a new development near the 2010 Greenpoint Stadium is De Waterkant. Any local will be able to point you in the right direction. Great restaurants etc. Hope that helps, but if you need more details or sugestions, let me know! GetDownAdam (talk) 11:46, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Reverts of redirects

Hi, why did you revert my redirects of religion articles after I merged them? I have been working on the religion articles of various countries around the world for a while (right now mainly in Africa), and I have found that these stub articles on individual groups tend to turn into content forks, with all sorts of contradictory statistics, etc. I think it is a sensible solution to merge them into a main country religion article until the content grows enough to require summary-style sections. This way, any contradictions between sections are apparent and are fixed by editors. Thoughts? Mangostar (talk) 02:46, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Reply

Thanks, I'm trying to create articles for all of the embassies here in Washington, D.C. The next Africa-related articles I'm writing are the embassies of Mauritania, Morocco, Cameroon, Madagascar, and Sierra Leone. I decided to create articles for their ambassadors as well, assuming they automatically are notable because of their position. (I hope) I removed the diplomat template you mentioned from one of the articles, but I'll add it back if you're planning on creating the template. APK yada yada 05:17, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Request to move article Anthony Leon Tucker incomplete

You recently filed a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves to move the page Anthony Leon Tucker to a different title - however your proposal is either incomplete or has been contested as being controversial. As a result, it has been moved to the incomplete and contested proposals section. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.

Please make sure you have completed all three of the following:

  1. Added {{move|NewName}} at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved, replacing "NewName" with the new name for the article. This creates the required template for you there.
  2. Added {{subst:RMtalk|NewName|reason for move}} to the bottom of the talk page of the page you want to be moved, to automatically create a discussion section there.
  3. Added {{subst:RMlink|PageName|NewName|reason for move}} to the top of today's section here.

If you need any further guidance, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Requested moves or contact me on my talk page. - JPG-GR (talk) 17:30, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] NBA draftees

Unless I'm mistaken, drafted individuals have yet to sign (rookie) contracts with their NBA clubs. So we can't add categories stating they are members of that team, per WP:CRYSTAL. Thanks. --Madchester (talk) 03:56, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

I notice that you reverted my edits. Again, I suggest not jumping to conclusions per WP:CRYSTAL. Players aren't really part of a team until they sign an actual NBA contract. For 1st rounders, there's a 2-3 day lapse between the draft and the signing. For other draftees, it may take longer. --Madchester (talk) 04:10, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Yet, I noticed you also reverted my edits for 2nd round draft picks??? I'd brought up the topic for discussion at WP:NBA. Editors shouldn't make certain assumptions with contract signings, and thus going against WP:CRYSTAL. --Madchester (talk) 04:58, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Reverting

Please stop reverting my edits in Bill Walker and J.R. Giddens. I use a common format for the lead part (not only for those two articles, but many more), and the "unsigned" part in the infobox is redundant, because the lead part will change to "player for Boston Celtics" once the player signs. Also, the mention of Beasley is redundant in the lead part. I am sure we can make a compromise and solve our differences of opinion. ● 8~Hype @ 16:53, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi there 8-Hype,
Ok, I understand the coding issue and won't change that anymore. However, I don't think the Beasley mention is redundant, since most users wouldn't make the connection between Kansas St., Beasley and Walker that fans like you and I would. Also, I think that a lead has to assert notability and simply being an American basketball player isn't an assertion. The same could be said for me, but I don't deserve an article (yet). Thoughts?--Thomas.macmillan (talk) 16:58, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

The mention of BEasley should not be in the lead part, but in the main body. It would also be nice to mention that he was a teammate of O.J. Mayo in high school in the same sentence. Also, the first sentence is just enough, since it is just the first sentence, and there is enough room to elaborate in the lead part other than the first sentence. ● 8~Hype @ 17:04, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Knox Basketball

Hi Thomas.macmillan,

I'm unhappy that you saw fit to propose deleting the page on Knox Basketball Inc.

I am not the original creator of the page but I have made a number of contributions to it.

Knox Basketball is the largest basketball association in Australia and possibly the southern hemisphere, and is involved in domestic and representative competition at the local, state and national levels.

The association has been an incubator for several professional players in Australia's NBL competition and National representative squads (Boomers, Opals).

The association's representative teams (Knox Raiders) contain a number of international players, including CJ Massingale.

Can you please detail your familiarity with Knox Basketball, and explain why you deemed the association to be lacking in notability?

Thanks and regards, ThreeKings (talk) 01:59, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Just out of curiosity, what was your rationale for this move? In the NBA, he was simply known as Alex Garcia.[3] He's also listed as Alex Garcia at Eurobasket. [4] Generally, we're supposed to stick with the most common name, but if you know something I don't, just let me know. Zagalejo^^^ 01:29, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

I don't feel that strongly about it, but FYI, the Wikipedia naming conventions advise, "Names of articles should be the most commonly used name... Using a full formal name requires people to know that name, and to type more." [5]. Zagalejo^^^ 01:51, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bezuidenhout

Bezuidenhout is an Afrikaner surname which originated from Holland when the dutch settlers moved to south africa. It is used by any people (mostly white and coloureds) who speak afrikaans, which i do. There are 2 places named after bezuidenhout. one's called Bezuidenhout in holland and Bezuidenhoutskraal in south africa (article on wikipedia hasn't been made yet). Other famous south africans include Evita Bezuidenhout. Hope this helps you! :) --Bezuidenhout (talk) 13:46, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Also, i have recentley found out BEZUIDENHOUT means By (Be) Southern (zuiden) Woods (hout) in dutch, so it means By the southern woods (forest). or that's what it says on Bezuidenhout.

[edit] It is a mistake to shoehorn Arabic names into the English style of surnames

I reverted this {{defaultsort}}.

Should Ibrahim Bin Shakaran be transliterated as Brahim Benchekroun?

Why sort on Shakaran? It is not an inherited English style surname.

With the exception of Westernized individuals, who have adapted to the English style of naming, it is IMO a big mistake to use {{defaultsort}}.

[edit] What are you doing

You actually know these people are Igbo, so why are you undoing the categories?

[edit] Then..

Then why did you undo Andre Iguodala when it clearly states on the article that he is of Igbo descent plus all of them have either an Igbo first name surname or both and they are all under the Nigerian categories so why didn't you undo the Nigerian category as well?Ukabia (talk)

If they have sources that they are of Nigerian ancestry and they have Igbo surnames, does that not mean they are Igbo?Ukabia (talk)
Every single page you undid did not all have a reliable source so why didn't you undo those ones? I know Igbo names and if I see a name that I am not sure that is Igbo I will leave it alone as I have done before, I put them in these categories because they where under Nigerian categories and they have Igbo names.Ukabia (talk)
I can't see a member of another Nigerian ethnic group having the name from another ethnic group more so considering the Igbo people's past, but even if that is not a good reason to confirm their Igbo, Did you confirm they are Nigerian, did you research each and every article you undid to confirm they are Nigerian?Ukabia (talk)
Im really curious as to know why you are the only one that has had a problem with the ethnic group category that I have placed on all these players pages, yet you do not remove their nationality? If WP is supposed to be such a reliable source why didn't you remove their nationality as well? Why just their ethnicity, Because not all their nationalities are proven to be "reliable" either? To add to that you didn't even notify me before undoing my edits the first time. please answer.Ukabia (talk)

Hello, Thomas.macmillan. You did not receive DYK notice because your name was not on the list of recipients on DYKNU. Upon further review, your name was not even mentioned in the original nomination by Nishkid. I think you were left out because your initiating the article in mid July, though a siginificant contribution, was "more than 5 days ago" and too long ago to qualify for DYK credits. {{UpdatedDYK}} is usually not given out for article creation so long ago. [edit] Gonaguas

May I inquire as to the logic of your redirection? JoshuaZ (talk) 19:17, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Eh, if it was in the 1911 encyclopedia it clearly is a historically notable group whether or not they are generally considered separate today. Moreover, I don't see any terribly racist language in the article. What am I missing? JoshuaZ (talk) 19:26, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

That's a problem of using historical terminology that didn't have the negative connotations it does now. Moreover, we can easily solve that by simply replacing the terms with say Khoikhoi instead of Hottentots and say for Kaffir, groups that were historically referred to as Kaffir linking to Kaffir (historical usage in southern Africa) or something like that. Alternatively, we could remove the statement phrase "descendants of a very old union between the Hottentots and the “Kaffirs”." It seems clear however that this is a historically notable group. Is there any way of including the politician stubs under the sub-heading of bio stubs? For the purposes of getting that cat set up? I.e., count "Antigua politician stubs" as "Antigua bio stubs" as well? --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 08:50, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
What if the bio category doesn't exist yet? --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 15:53, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
OK, think I've got it now. Thanks. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 17:34, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] SFD...

Hi Thomas - sorry to have to say this, but I've just proposed a template you've just made for deletion! The proposal for a stub type for South African media stubs seems to clearly say that it's fine as a category, but that there should be separate templates for each medium. Not sure why, but you seem to have only made a general SouthAfrica-media-stub template, which wasn't supported. Grutness...wha? 12:16, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Joseph Needham Professorship of Chinese History, Science and Civilization

Ahoy me hearty,

I have taken the PRoD off Joseph Needham Professorship of Chinese History, Science and Civilization. Personally I can't see a Cambridge University Chair with a £2million endowment as being in any way WP:NN - you will have to try AfD if you want to pursue this.

Danite123 (talk) 00:59, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Hi there, I’m researching an article about Wikipedia, and its editors. I wonder if you I could talk to you about Wikipedia, and how you use it, for a magazine about not-for-profit organisations. If you could spare some time and wouldn’t mind answering some questions by email or phone, please contact me on Bennett.d@hotmail.co.uk, or leave a message here or on my talk page. Many thanks,

[edit] Deletion of Category:African American basketball players

I tried having Category:African American baseball players upmerged to Category:African American sportspeople and the nomination failed. Why delete one (basketball) and keep the other (baseball)? Mayumashu (talk) 02:42, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

As well, the deleted basketball players should have been an upmerge - can there be speedy upmerges? Mayumashu (talk) 02:45, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
And, yeah, I didnt think I missed this. It s been over a year since the page was deleted, this one that I "recreated". After a year, wouldn t deletion need to go through discussion and not be a speedy? Mayumashu (talk) 02:49, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I do want to contest the deletion. I guess I would list it in the same way as I would to nominate a cat page for discussion to delete it or merge it. Anyway, I ll try that. Regards Mayumashu (talk) 03:31, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Players with NFL and CFL careers‎

I removed your speedy delete on Category:Players with NFL and CFL careers‎. Sorry, your reasoning "Non-notable intersection of leagues" is a bit subjective, and not a speedy deletion criterion, that I can see. Please take it to a CfD if you wish to pursue. Thanks, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 01:19, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Palais du Peuple

Thanks! Its always encouraging/fun to see one's work being put to use. The info I got about the Palais is that it was built by the Chinese (read it in a Lonely Planet guidebook) as a gift to Sekou Touré. --Soman (talk) 22:18, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pierre-Célestin Rwigema

Thank you for your steadfast dedication to this article! I posted the old version on its talk page, but then I realized that you may not have that article on your watchlist anymore, in case you haven't set your preferences to "Add pages I edit to my watchlist", so I'm alerting you here. — Sebastian 19:32, 16 December 2008 (UTC)    (I stopped watching this page as of 00:05, 22 December 2008 (UTC). [edit] Benin

Thanks! I was just expanding Cotonou and started Cotonou Cathedral earlier and I realised that the main communes of the country (similar to countries or districts) were either missing or had no infoboxes or whatever. SO I created a templates and am sorting them out. Just googling a few of them evne with what little we have on Benin on the web most could be fully expanded eventually I think. They are like the main towns and areas of the country! The Bald One White cat 19:36, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Hunde Dhugassa

I have added a notability tag to an article you have edited, Hunde Dhugassa. The article does not make clear why this young man is notable enough to merit inclusion in an encyclopedia, and I would like your opinion. I cannot find any information on Hunde Dhugassa, so I may consider nominating this article for deletion. If you can provide any sources or rationale consistant with WP:BIO as to what makes Hunde Dhugassa notable for inclusion into an encyclopedia, it would be greatly appreciated. Reforming a student union does not appear to satisfy WP:BIO, and either more information is needed, the article needs to be deleted, or the article needs to be merged with the school or student union article, if such exists. [edit] Fact tags

Just because text doesn't have a source at the end of every sentence doesn't mean it isn't sourced. [6] I provide a ref at the end of each block of information that is covered by the ref, not necessarily at the end of each sentence; there might be three refs in one sentence, or there might be three sentences all covered by the same ref at the end of the last sentence. [edit] Category:Igbo female singers

Hello Thomas.macmillan,

I was wandering if you could tell me why you nominated the Igbo female singers for deletion, Thanks. Ukabia (talk)

[edit] University of Conakry

You moved University of Conakry to Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry commenting it was the "offical name". I started a talk page discussion arguing the article should be at University of Conakry - could I ask you to put your rationale for this move on the talk page there. Thanks. [edit] Abdul Raheem Glaiati

Hi. To be honest, I was a little offended by your edit summary when removing my PROD for Abdul Raheem Glaiati, as you presumed that I only searched Google despite there being no evidence whatsoever for that in my PROD statement. In fact, I did search Google and, seeing as how he is likely to be classified as an intellectual, Google Scholar as well. I then searched English news archives to no avail, along with a JSTOR search that can locate articles in many English language publications as far back, then a search of University of Texas libraries, a very large collection. I would love to search in Arabic as well but, as no sources exist that include the spelling of his name in Arabic, I cannot do so. Your reason for removing the PROD was essentially that there might be sources somewhere else; a more than reasonable amount of searching has not detected any and, furthermore, it would be nearly impossible to delete any article that was not an outright hoax if we keep anything that might have sourcing.

Anyhow, I was wondering if you might be able to suggest another reason why the article should remain; otherwise, I plan on sending it to WP:AfD. Cheers, CP 02:55, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Abdul Raheem Glaiati

Hey there, I've found a few more references / sources for the article. Unfortunately I don't have time to expand it as I would like. If you have the time, could you take a look and work the information into the article? [edit] Rwandan politicians

Hi Thomas. Nice work on Africa BTW. After me break I will creating further stubs on national parliament/senate members for most African countries. As you can see I did Gabon the other day and haven't quite finished yet. However I noticed that for many of the Rwandan politicians you started you started them backwards with the surname first and the first name last!! Could you fix these errors so that the surname is no longer first. Thanks! Dr. Blofeld White cat 22:28, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Actually it only seems one or two were backwards so should be OK now. ANy help you can give in getting 60+ from each country though would be much appreciated Dr. Blofeld White cat 22:31, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

I gather thats a no? I wonder why it is people don't like to discuss African topics with me when I speak to them? Speaking to User talk:Babakathy its like speaking to a brick wall! Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:39, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Great, Yes finding good information is difficult for many African countries. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:31, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] 1986 in South Africa

Hi Thomas, with all the listings in the individual year pages of Timeline of South African history, I decided to put the references at the bottom of this page. As for 1986 most of the listings come from ANC Statement to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The 27 December incident comes from me as I was there.

[edit] User:203.217.29.182

Have you looked at his edit history? He's way out of line. He is constantly deleting entire articles. This is what he does. He finds anything in an article that does not have a direct source and then rather than asking for a citation he deletes the article to a blank page or a nearly blank page. He then makes some comment like "this article should be deleted" or "in the future editors should never do such crappy work again" or "any further edits to this article will be reverted", paraphrasing a bit, but that's basically the idea of it.

I mean for example, if an article has no references or links, rather than tag it, or cite it, what does he do? He either deletes the entire article or he deletes everything except something like so and so is and then everything else is blanked. Also he NEVER ever NEVER takes an article that is such and improves or verifies it.

Now, site policy states that you should work on or improve such articles, it does not state that you should go through EVERY such article and delete them. In addition to that, if he does this to an article and someone else sees it, then goes back and restores the article by verifying and sourcing it and properly doing what site policy states to do (and trying to make honest and helpful edits and improving the site and sourcing work), improving it by sources and documenting it and trying to not have his alternative which is blank articles........what does he do? He usually in most cases reverts the page back. And then he keeps reverting the page back over and over no matter what. Even with sources and verifications. And when he leaves an edit summary in these cases it is often rude and insulting.

On top of that, he uses SEVERAL different IPs to do this. If he does something totally over the top and gets reported on it and warned or suspended or whatever, he just logs in another IP and then does the same thing with that IP. He does this constantly.

If you try to talk in a civil manner to this guy and ask him to stop breaking site policy, he responds with things like "leave me alone and shut up and go away", etc. Also, I am absolutely sure he is the same user as Downwards who has been suspended in the past for this same type of thing. How in the world this editor can be getting away with his stuff for so long is beyond me. This guy is one of the worst editors in the site and he is just endlessly allowed to do his nonsense.

SOMEONE needs to get control of this guy already. No matter how many times people complain about him (and many have) the admin just ignores his "edits", which are really more like vandalism in many cases. Or if they do suspend him or warn him he just logs in on another IP and starts up again. Is there not even anyone that bothers to stop stuff like that?
