Vroeger, meer dan twintig jaar geleden, had ik een heel beperkte visie op strips en comics. Strips die kwamen uit België en waren redelijks braaf en misschien zelfs kinds. Comics, dat was het echte werk, hoe rauwer hoe beter. En manga, dat was echt een heel ander verhaal, dat was er gewoon over. Die kerels werden neergeslagen, stonden terug op, kregen nog wat slaag, gingen janken over een verloren dierbare & sloegen dan nog wat harder terug ...

Met de tijd ging er een hele nieuwe wereld open met de franse strips (zoals Bilal, Tardi, Moebius), Graphic Novels, Vertigo ...

En nu terug.

Ik wist niet dat er in Indië of dat indiërs ook een strip cultuur was / hadden. Zeker niet eentje die significant genoeg was om ons kerels zoals Shamik Dasgupta en Abhishek Singh te brengen.

Lang leve de globalisatie, voor dit dan toch.

Wikipedia heeft zelfs een term bedacht : Indian Comics. "Indian comics are comic books and graphic novels associated with the culture of India. India has a long tradition of comic readership, with arge publication, but the industry still remains immature compared to that
of Japan, France and America. Due to widespread use of English language, Indian comics and graphic novels tend to be more stylistically similar to western comics, than the manga, manhwa and manhua of India's Asian neighbours, which share common links through use of Japanese language."

RAMAYAN 3392 AD is van opzet best te vergelijken met Lord of the Rings. RAMAYAN 3392 AD is a comic book series based upon the Indian epic called Ramayaण. It is written by Shamik Dasgupta and the art is by Abhishek Singh, and it was created based
on a story by Deepak Chopra and Shekhar Kapur. It features a re-imagining of the historical classic in a science fiction setting. The story primarily deals with the battles between the last kingdom of humans with demons (called Asuras) in a post-Apocalyptic world. The series' prime protagonist is the human prince Rama who,alongside his brothers, aim to bring down the demon-lord Ravण.
