Front Game

Six men competed against six women. In each game, one member of the team of challengers was read a relatively obscure question, and was given the correct answer and a bluff answer to that question on a card. The player looked at the answer, and then either gave the other team the correct answer or a bluff. Up to three members of the other team were then approached with that answer, and were given the choice to either agree or disagree with it; once two players either agreed or disagreed, the correct answer was revealed.

If the other team correctly judged the answer, the player who gave the answer was out, along with one other player of the second team's choosing, and control of the next question went to the second team. If they were incorrect, however, the two player who made the incorrect judgement were knocked out, and the first team retained control. This continued until one team managed to knock out all six players from the other team; the team that did so won $1000 and advanced to the bonus round.

In the event that only two players were left on a judging team and they disagreed on an answer, the second player would get a chance to persuade the first to change his/her guess. Otherwise, the first player's answer prevailed.

Bonus Round

The winning team was then pitted against 30 members of the opposite sex in the audience, each of them armed with a paddle. Each player in turn was asked a question, and given only the correct answer. The player then offered an answer to the audience, who independently voted to agree or disagree. Any player who made an incorrect judgement or failed to vote in time was eliminated from the round. If the team could eliminate all 30 audience players with six questions, they won $5000; otherwise, the audience members left standing split $500 between them.

Teams remained on the show until they either won more then $25,000 or lost two games.

Notes

  • The two hosts served as the leaders for their respective teams: Anderson for the men, Purcell for the women.
  • The show is probably best remembered for its theme song, whose melody consisted primarily of high-pitched women and deep-voiced men scatting back and forth.
