Remember that The National Archives in Kew and the Family Records Centre in Islington have different opening hours and closure dates.

The National Archives in Kew

These are our opening hours. Documents can only be requested or collected during document ordering times as the reading room and copying centre do not open until these times:

Dates of public closure in 2007 - 2008 are as follows:

Building works and annual stocktaking: Saturday 1 December to Sunday 16 December*
Christmas 2007: Saturday 22 December to Wednesday 26 December*
New Years Day 2008: Tuesday 1 January
Building works: Monday 21 January to Saturday 26 January 2008
Easter: Friday 21 March to Monday 24 March
May bank holiday: Saturday 3 May to Monday 5 May
Spring bank holiday: Saturday 24 May to Monday 26 May
August bank holiday: Saturday 23 August to Monday 25 August
Annual stocktaking: Friday 5 December to Monday 8 December
Christmas: Wednesday 24 December to Saturday 27 December
New Years Day 2009:   Thursday 1 January

*Dates are inclusive.

Note: Ad-hoc closures of the reading rooms at Kew may be required in 2007 for building works in connection with the relocation of FRC services in 2008. As much notice as possible will be given regarding these works. Find out more about disruption to our services.
