Friends of The National Archives

...are people who care about the future of the nation's records. We aim to raise the profile of the public records and to support the work of The National Archives.

Established in 1988, we are a registered charity. Our members hold annual elections to a council that manages our activities.

Our objectives are to educate the public in the knowledge of the public records and to promote, support and assist the work of The National Archives.  Voluntary indexing projects are a vital part of our work and an army of volunteers is busy on these projects.  New recruits are warmly welcomed.  Friends receive PROphile magazine three times a year to keep them informed of events and other matters of interest and provide a forum for discussion.  They are also entitled to a discount on The National Archives' activities and on conference fees and purchases in the bookshop.  If you are interested in becoming a Friend you can join here.  For details of how to get in touch please see our contacts page.
