Campaigners have raised the image of the violence in Sudan's western Darfur region over five years from a barely known conflict to a headline-grabber with what some are calling the greatest level of activism since the anti-apartheid movement.

But there are those in the relief world who believe there's been a price to pay for this kind of advocacy - one that may even have undermined the ability of aid organisations to help the victims of the conflict.

Afro-Peruvians angry at post-quake press

Afro-Peruvians - descended from African slaves brought to Peru by Spanish colonisers from the 16th century onwards - tend to get left out of most people's picture of the Andes.

But the coastal region most devastated by the August 15 earthquake has a large Afro-Peruvian population, which local rights organisations say is last in line for aid. They also claim that the group is unfairly vilified in the press.

Peru's newspapers have adapted to the times, asking readers for pictures and opinions since a big earthquake hit the country last night.

El Comercio, one of Lima's daily papers, offers a blurry recording - in Spanish, logically - from the office's security cameras of people evacuating the building during the quake.
