Kenosha homeless shelter plans take shape
Churches, Shalom Center hope to begin construction next year

Plans are moving forward to bring a permanent, 24-hour-a-day shelter to Kenosha. Currently, the Interfaith Network Nightly Shelter (INNS) Program, coordinated by three Kenosha-area churches, offers temporary emergency nightly shelter for the homeless. Their programs provide a warm respite for up to 30 people per night, but the need is outpacing the number of beds available.
St. Mary Catholic Church, Immanuel Baptist Church and Grace Lutheran Church, open their doors to the homeless on a rotating basis but are only open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Members of Congregations United to Serve Humanity (CUSH) believe that the Shalom Center, an interfaith network of area churches and volunteers, with an emergency family shelter and meal program already in place, should run the new facility.
