The Regiments of the Household Cavalry and Royal Armoured Corps today are descendants of the famous Cavalry Regiments of the Line who rode into battle on horseback as heavy or light horsemen; and of the Royal Tank Regiment who manned the first tanks during the great war.

Today, there are 12 regiments that make up the Household Cavalry and Royal Armoured Corps (HCav and RAC).  They are equipped with the most formidable fighting vehicles in the world, from the battle-proven Challenger 2 Tank to the fast Scimitar reconnaissance vehicle.  Of these 12 regiments, five are equipped with Challenger 2 and five with the Scimitar.  The Joint Nuclear Biological and Chemical (NBC) Regiment with the 1st Royal Tank Regiment, provide the British Armed Forces with the ability to detect hazardous materials in any environment, using the Fuchs NBC reconnaissance vehicle. The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment provides mounted and some dismounted ceremonial duties for state and other occasions.

Every Regiment in the RAC takes pride in its own history and traditions.  The Royal Armoured Corps soldier and his battle proven equipment are a winning combination and make for modern soldiering at its most exciting.
