Notice THEY all wear black t-shirts, long hair, and the bands on their shirts aren't gay!

Metalcore is a musical variant of emo, but with music generally consisting of "faster" drop-D power chords (or maybe Drop C, for that extra xheavyx sound!), elementary sweeps and legato phrasings for leads, and boring ass double bass drums. The lyrics generally focus upon giving blowjobs, cutting yourself, missing your girlfriend, and pretty much anything else that, upon reading, would make you think of some 16 year old girl sitting in her room, crying. The vocals are usually reminiscent of anal sex with a dog. Metalcore, which pretty much translates as "metal-influenced hardcore punk", actually had it's start in the late 1980's as an offshoot of crossover thrash with bands such as Integrity, Maximum Penalty, Leeway, and Madball. However, unlike todays cookie cutter bands, these bands actually had some originality.

[edit] Fanbase

Most fans of metalcore are white, below the age of 22, live in neighborhoods with an average income of $80,000, yet have the shittiest lives EVAR! So, it is not surprising that in regard to fashion, socialization and music, emo and metalcore fans seem to overlap and mix freely. Generally, much to the chagrin of real metalheads, they think they are metal. This is because, like glam metal, MTV puts them on the headbangers ball and says so, so given the hardcore nonconformist, anti-capitalist attitude that is so obvious in metalcore fans, they believe it without question, and rush to hot topic to buy the latest album MTV shoved down their throat and buy some of the trendy band shirts for 50$ a piece. Let's compare some of the more popular death metal oufits to some contemporary metalcore bands. See if you can tell which would be thought of as fake and which would be seen as having ideas more congruent with that of extreme metal.

[edit] Emo?

Many would claim the assertion metalcore music is like emo to be incorrect and biased. Usually these are the same people that cannot decipher the buttsecks influenced vocals of the metalcore singer well enough to realize the lyrics are extremely gay with just as many references to self-mutilation, unnecessary drama, and a girl breaking up with you because she's tired of your whiny ass. Let's examine the lyrical prowess of the english metalcore band Bullet For My Valentine in their "hard-edged" number: Her Voice Resides:

Our time is ending, I feel it's only just begun And I'm frustrated, I can't believe you're not the one My ears are bleeding, her voice resides inside my head And now I'm choking, release this noose around my neck!

Will I just fall to pieces? Or am I all right? To iron out my creases, you must lacerate me 'til they're gone

These are my final words to you I know you're listening, can you hear me The time has come to say goodbye These are my final words, to you

The clock is ticking, my heart is bursting through my chest, And now I'm crying, the tears are pouring off my face, The chair is creaking, Her voice resides inside my head, And now it's over, You put this noose around my neck

Wow, that was so metal!!
