New info State Quarters Near End of Popular Run: The final five designs in the popular State Quarters series were announced yesterday by the United States Mint. Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska and Hawaii due in 2008. [ Find out more ]

New info Madison dollar: James Madison was the fourth President of the United States, serving two terms from 1809 to 1817. Often referred to as the "Father of the Constitution," James Madison is now immortalized on the newest Presidential $1 Coin. [ Find out more ]

New info Will Ohio get a salamander?: Wadsworth's Central Intermediate School students are pushing to make Ambystoma maculatum the official state amphibian. State Senator Timothy Grendell, of Chesterland, has introduced S.B. No. 240 to make the student goal a reality. Missouri gets state reptile and invertebrate: Governor Matt Blunt signed House Bill No. 272 and House Bill No. 351 to give the state an official reptile and an official invertebrate. The "Show Me State" becomes the only state with an official invertebrate! [ Find out more ]

2nd State gets official vegetable this year: On April 24, 2007, Governor Brad Henry signed legislation naming the Watermelon "the official vegetable of the State of Oklahoma." This law goes into effect on November 1, 2007. Find out more in The Netstate Chronicle.

It's Official!: Governor Linda Lingle signed legislation adopting kalo (taro) the official plant of Hawai'i. "I agree that kalo should be designated as Hawaii's state plant and to preclude the necessity of having those who gave their time and effort to assure this bill's passage return next year to testify on a brand new bill, I am approving this measure," Lingle said. "I urge the Legislature to send me a bill next session correcting the effective date. Find out more in The Netstate Chronicle.

What about Kalo?: House Bill No. 659, designating Kalo (Hawai'ian word for taro) "the official plant of the State.", was approved by the Hawai'i State Legislature and sent to Governor Linda Lingle for her signature. Oops! It seems there was an error in the legislation that would prevent Kalo from becoming the official plant for 18 years. House Bill No. 659 set an effective date of January 1, 2025...
