Lol, the most abused abbreviation on the internets. But what does it mean? Usually one of these:
- Laugh out loud, or laughing out loud.
- By some: Lots of laughs. As a side note, those who think so are g|-|3y and should be shot on sight.
- Also used when something is not funny, but you pity the person anyways.

- It's actually supposed to be spelled lulz

Be careful to use the special formatting rules for the verb to LOL.

gay The adjective describing something as LOL inducing is “lolificatious”, or the more commonly accepted “funny”. In informal contexts it may be spelled using lowercase as lol, but in formal contexts it should always be spelled in uppercase as LOL since etymologically it derives from an acronym (i.e. “Let’s Order Linguini”).
The German conjugation of this Leitwort verb is as follows:

In Russian the verb is LOLить. Note that it is not ЛОЛить which means something completely different. As a second conjugation verb, it is typical:

The Wapanese verb is ロルする, sometimes seen as LOLする, although the latter is frowned upon by more conservative speakers. As a suru verb it is regular, except in the first person present and past conjugations where it is spelled www〜 and ワロタ respectively. Do not confuse ロルする with ロリする or you will be banned.
The Korean verb is LOL다. Conjugation, starting with the most formal and moving down, is:

- 1: an exclamation used on the internet to express gaiety and to indicate that one has human laughed in real life, typically as a result of listening to funny jokes. (this term developed as a response to the CNN reports of LOL fraud) [syn: IROFL]
- n. (contraction of IRL and OL)
- 1: (irLOL nervosa) a schizotypal disorder which causes confusion between realspace and hyperspace, resulting in either taking the internet too seriously or behaving in public as one would online (such as using acronyms like LOL to describe their emotions).
There has been some debate as to who first coined this acronym but it was concluded that the phrase is not really that funny and, more importantly, no-one really cares. hep coined this phrase because she is a LOL-ita.
