- Hmm… gee… I just don't know what to say… I guess I'm a little too settled into the Wikipedia NPOV (or at least semi-NPOV) model of informing people. If an article says, say "X is a pice of shit", or "X is a whore on Xanga", am I really that much closer to understanding what X is all about? Do I have any way of distinguishing X from all the other whores and fags the Web seems to be filled with?
- An example might be "McDonald's". Even though it starts with a moderately accurate opening, the rest is (and I'm not complaining about this fact per se) a bunch of lies. So we reach a sort of unbreakable cycle — if a person really doesn't know what McDonald's is, how are they going to be able to sift out the true definition in the first place, especially if the lies are written in a nuetral tone? Maybe I'm just not up enough on my internetspeak, but perhaps it should be spelled out, at least in one small corner, that this whole site is kind of in a completely different dialect than us n00bs are used to. I've modified MediaWiki:common.css and a small handful of templates ({{youtube}}, {{lj}}, and {{ljcomm}}) to make them function more like they should, ie, the thumbnail image that goes with the link no longer leads to the image itself, but to the URL it's supposed to. However, the template (and the pages it is used on) may not show an image at all until one clears their cache or forces a hard refresh. - kk, {{youtube2}} is for linking to jewtube profiles, {{myspace}} is fucking obvious, and I've added some functionality to {{lj}} and {{ljcomm}} which means you can now pipe different text (and I managed it without breaking the existing functionality). The myspace, youtube2, and deviantart templates look really fugly in the article section, though; they're best left for external links/see also. --Blu Aardvark 08:21, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

kk, all links to youtube vids, even those where the author failed to use the template properly, will now display with the vid icon as they are supposed to, at least in Firefox. (This applies to links to videos and not to profiles. Also, the template is still better, as it appends the URL hash for proper video tracking, but that's trivial stuff) Also, all links to full-disclosure now display preceded by this. I don't know if this is a desired effect or no, though. It's easily undone, in either case. Some opinions on it would be nice.
