As if his films weren't a bad enough influence on the impressionable minds of America, John Waters has just launched a new film series on HereTV, titled "John Waters Presents Movies That Will Corrupt You."

"I use the word 'corrupt' in a joyous way," explains the man behind such titles as "Pink Flamingoes," "Serial Mom," "Hairspray" and "A Dirty Shame."

"To me, it means surprise you and make you see things in a different way. They're good, smart movies, but a couple of them even make me uptight."

"Screening Party" author Dennis Hensley caught up with Waters at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival to talk about the new show.

Which of the movies make you uptight?

"Irreversible," which is a really brilliant movie told backward about rape. Since you have cable on-demand, you can watch it many times. You can dress as the rapist and shout out the dialogue and wear a costume like "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Then there's "Clean Shaven," which is about schizophrenia. You think you had trouble coming out? Try being a schizophrenic. It's much harder. And none of the things that might help in the gay world -- like being cute or having a big penis -- helps in the schizophrenic world. Nothing helps except medication.

It looks like it's going to be a pretty gay year at the Oscars.

We have "Brokeback Mountain," "Capote," "Transamerica." It could be the Fag Oscars.

Felicity Huffman does some of the best on-screen drooling I've ever seen in Transamerica.

I noticed that drool. What do you use for that? I know for foaming at the mouth you put an Alka Seltzer in your mouth with no water. We did that in "Multiple Maniacs." It's such an easy trick. Try it.

    You're giving away your secrets.

Oh, that's all right. I'm trying to help young people.

My favorite image from your last film, "A Dirty Shame," was Tracey Ullman picking up that big bottle with her vagina.

That was something that the Motion Picture Association of America didn't love, I promise you. It was done with magnets. We were testing the scene outside with the prop master, and we looked over and everyone at the gas station across the street was watching her do it over and over. They didn't know we were making a movie. They just thought there was a woman out in the parking lot at 10 in the morning, you know, picking up bottles.

Speaking of giving away secrets, do you like doing DVD director's commentaries for your movies?

I like doing them because people buy them. I hate when directors use the word "craft." The word "craft" makes my blood boil. I say why doesn't the craft services person do it? "That fat bitch, I put salt in her food!" Or the editor? "You should have seen the footage I had to work with; this hack couldn't cut a shot."

You're also have an art show opening in New York in April. Is there a creative frontier you want to try but haven't, like a fragrance, perhaps?

My fragrance would be the smell of burning celluloid trapped in a projector and the smell of the dump in Provincetown in August and the smell of the last jar of mayonnaise that isn't bought at a flea market in Baltimore in late summer all mixed together. Eau de Waters.

This is a crazy time in our culture in terms of gay visibility and acceptance. On one hand, we have gay TV channels and "the Fag Oscars," and on the other, there are loads of people out there who revile us more than ever.

I never meet them. I guess there are these people that are against everything I do, but I never come into contact with them. I judge success not by money or reviews. I think it's that you never have to meet assholes. I have achieved that success.
