Being the birthplace of both heavy metal and The Twang, Birmingham seems to have a reputation for dire musical output. Luckily, this doesn’t stop Brum from being one of the music capitals of the country, with most bands on a UK tour making it an essential stop (or calling in at nearby Wolverhampton instead). It’s a vibrant place which caters for any taste – The Barfly in Digbeth, three Carling Academies in the city centre and a host of smaller locations should satisfy your appetite for live music, while club nights like the grimey Snobs and the uber-cool Custard Factory provide the perfect stage for classy partying.
