Policy & legislation
This section contains details on policies and legislation that relate to or have an impact on archives and records management such as the Data Protection Act, the Freedom of Information Act and the current acts relating to archive services at local and regional levels.
Further information is given in the Command Paper, the Government's Policy on Archives which was constructed to promote awareness in the public's mind of the importance of archives throughout the public and private sectors and the Action Plan that has resulted from it.
Links are also provided to the Public Records Act and the Royal Warrant of the Historical Manuscripts Commission, which are the statutory underpinning for the functions of the two organisations that have merged to form The National Archives
