Florida's Fourth Congressional District is a U.S. congressional district in Florida. Since 2001, the residents of the Fourth District are represented by Republican Ander Crenshaw.

[edit] History

The district was originally created by the Florida Legislature in 1943 as the 2nd District. Democrat Charles Bennett represented the district from 1948-1992. The district was renumbered as the 3rd District in 1967 and later as the 4th District in 1993. During the 1992 Congressional Election, Bennett chose to retire rather than fight an intense re-election campaign against challenger Tillie K. Fowler. Fowler won the election and became the first Republican to represent the district. She held the position from 1993-2000. George W. Bush received 69% of the vote in this district in 2004. The district has a Cook Partisan Voting Index score of R +16.
