For north-eastern Gulf of Carpentaria waters.
Issued at 4:10 am EST on Sunday 13 January 2008

Synoptic Situation
The monsoon trough is located near the southern Gulf coast with strong NW'ly
flow over northern waters.

Strong Wind Warning
for north-east Gulf of Carpentaria waters
NW/W winds will reach 25/30 knots with seas increasing to 2.5 metres on a 2 to
2.5 metre NW/W swell.

The next warning will be issued by 10 am AEST.

Please be aware
Wind gusts can be a further 40 percent stronger than the averages given here,
and maximum waves may be up to twice the height.

For Torres Strait to Cooktown.
Issued at 4:10 am EST on Sunday 13 January 2008

Synoptic Situation
A developing NW monsoon flow will extend through Torres Strait and into the
northern Coral Sea today and continue into next week.

Strong Wind Warning
Torres Strait to Cooktown
NW winds are expected to increase to 25/30 knots today. Seas rising to 2 metres
in open waters inside the reef and 2.5 metres outside. These conditions are
expected to continue for at least the following 48 hours.

The next warning will be issued by 10 am AEST.

Please be aware
Wind gusts can be a further 40 percent stronger than the averages given here,
and maximum waves may be up to twice the height.

Thick cloud across north QLD along an active monsoon trough is generating heavy showers and storms. Cloud over the central east is gradually contracting north as an upper trough weakens, but is still causing patchy rain. Clear over the south and west.
