Sari Red is Parmar's visual poem made in memory of Kalbinder Kaur Hayre, a young Indian woman killed in a 1985 racist attack in England. A meditation on the threat of violence in the lives of Asian women, Sari Red draws on the resonant meanings of red blood spilt in violence and the red sari, which symbolizes sensuality and intimacy between Asian women.
