FRONT PORCH

Front Porch runs every week. Essays should be 500-600 words maximum. This is the place for reflections on life, politics, recent local events and other topics of community interest. Humor is always appreciated. Sad is occasionally OK. Musings on your own life without a larger point—or essays with a majority of sentences that open with the personal pronoun—not so much.

Submissions are not necessarily acknowledged or returned. Please note that we do not pay for reader-submitted Front Porch essays. E-mail submissions to editors@indyweek.com. Include your name, phone number and mailing address for verification, and put "Front Porch" in the subject line. Front Porch is edited by Managing Editor Jennifer Strom.

FIRST PERSON

First Person is an occasional feature; it does not run every week. Submissions should be 800-1,400 words and tell a story about a personal experience. First Person essay submissions longer than 1,400 words will not be considered. Preference is given to pieces that offer a firsthand view of topics in the news with broad community interest.

Please note that we do not publish general letters to the editor; Back Talk is strictly limited to feedback about Independent articles. The deadline is Monday at 9 a.m. for that Wednesday's issue.
