Dolly Parton reschedules 'Barbie' dates
The country music legend temporarily called off her tour last week after she was instructed by doctors to rest her back for six to eight weeks in order to recover properly, according to a press release. Parton is now set to kick things off April 22 in Pittsburgh, PA. Tickets from the postponed shows will be honored for the rescheduled dates.
"Hey, thanks for being patient," Parton wrote in a message to fans posted at her website. "I'm mending very nicely and will be fit as a fiddle soon. And I'll not only have the fiddle, but the rest of the band as well. We can't wait to hit the road for our 'Backwoods Barbie' tour. We're anxious for you to see our new show and play you some of the new songs. Look forward to seeing you soon."
Parton's upcoming European tour, which kicks off June 13 in Sweden, was not affected by her back problems. After the summer overseas run, Parton will return for more dates in the US and Canada, according to her publicist.
Last month, Parton announced that "Backwoods Barbie," which originally was set for a Feb. 5 release, had been pushed back until "late February/early March." She has since nailed down a Feb. 26 release for the album, which features the lead-off single "Better Get to Livin'."
"Backwoods Barbie" is Parton's first new studio set since 2005's "Those Were the Days," and is billed in a press release as her "first album of mainstream country music in 17 years." The forthcoming collection features nine originals among its 12 tunes, including the Parton-penned title track, which will be used in the score for a Broadway-musical adaptation of "9 to 5" (based on the 1980 movie of the same name that co-starred the singer with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin) currently planned for 2009.
