Guillemots have been one of the year's big success stories, with jaw-droppingly good live shows and a Mercury Music Prize nominated album. Trains To Brazil is re-released in September - here's what we had to say about the song first time round... You may have noticed a degree of hype surrounding this bunch of late. Regular rotation on music television channels and national radio, combined with patronage from those seemingly in the know have ensured that this band, named after a breed of coastal bird no less, are the current name to drop.
And after just one listen to Trains To Brazil, their second single, it's clear there's a very good reason for all the fuss. Indeed, this is fantastic, uplifting and compelling music that, excuse the cliché, does exactly what it says on the tin - transports you to a warmer, happier place than wherever you may be.
Various horns, whistles, tribal drumbeats and the sound of children in a playground are just some of the delights on offer here, and singer Fyfe Dangerfield's beautiful, mesmerising and incredibly wide ranging vocals call to mind none other than Jeff Buckley - and are sure to become a trademark of theirs over time. "Can't you live and be thankful you're here," he cries, seemingly as a protest against an overly pessimistic society. With more songs of this jaw dropping brilliance my friend, most certainly.
