Las Vegas, NV --
The Portland Trail Blazers won their first NBA Summer League game Saturday night in Las Vegas upending the Phoenix Suns, 89-85, in a hotly contested shootout at UNLV’s Thomas and Mack Center.

Five Trail Blazers scored in double figures led by the 19 points (4-8 FG, 7-10 FT) of second-round draft choice Taurean Green. Green, playing his best game of summer league, hit four three pointers and collected five rebounds.

"We started off 0-3 and our main goal was to just finish out these last two games with a win," said Green. "Everybody contributed tonight and we can out with a win."

Zendon Hamilton had another strong outing at center with 16 points (5-8 FG, 6-8 FT), while Martell Webster added 13 points (6-13 FG) and seven rebounds in the victory that improved Portland to 1-3 in summer league play.

The game was a seesaw battle throughout with 12 lead changes and seven ties.

Ron Hale had a chance to tie the game at 86 with 16 seconds left, but the Phoenix forward’s three-pointer from the top of the key hit the back iron and Green hit three free throws to seal the win for Portland.

"You got to go out there and prove yourself," added Green. "You’re fighting for a roster spot. The coaches told us to go out there and play loose. We’ve been playing tight the last three games. It’s a new experience for some of us."

DJ Strawberry, the son of former Major League Baseball player Darryl Strawberry, paced Phoenix with a game-high 27 points (10-18 FG, 6-7 FT), while dishing out eight assists. Alando Tucker added 18 points (7-12 FG, 4-6 FT) in the loss, which dropped the Suns summer league record to 1-3.

Portland closes out summer league play Sunday when they take on the Kevin Durant and the Seattle SuperSonics at Cox Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. The game will be carried live on Trail Blazers flagship station KXL 750 AM.
