Signs of Hope

Much is being done to help the Elderly:

  • LIVING LONGER: The elderly are living longer. Life expectancy in 1900 was 47. It is now 83. However, the cost of providing care for older relatives can cost individuals upwards of $659,000.

  • WOMEN: Women, who are 60% of all seniors, are increasingly entering retirement age with better financial security, thanks to the careers and pensions they have had. However, social security provides 90% of income for almost half of all elderly women.

  • GOVERNMENT: The Older Americans Act has been one of the most important legislative initiatives to meet the needs of mature citizens. It has provided agencies on aging, funding for community centers, transportation, recreation, adult education, Meals-on Wheels, and preventative health programs.

The world's elderly population is expected to more than double in the next twenty-five years. You can help support those in need by choosing a charity that is offering help and respect to the elderly.
