Sinitta (born Sinitta Renet Malone October 19, 1966 in Seattle, Washington) is an American actress and singer. She is the daughter of singer Miquel Brown and the niece of Amii Stewart.

[edit] Early career

Sinitta began in show business by appearing in the movie Shock Treatment in 1981, followed by singing in the musical Cats in 1983. From 1985 to 1986, she appeared in the West End musical Mutiny! in London. Sinitta was romantically linked in the British tabloids with her leading man, David Essex, who wrote the score.

Sinitta was the lead singer of the band Hot Gossip during the 1980s[citation needed].

Sinitta released her first solo recording Never Too Late, which was mixed by producer Jellybean (Madonna, E.G.Daily). Further singles like "So Macho", "Cruising" and "Feels Like The First Time" and "Toy Boy" were club hits. "So Macho" spent 18 weeks on the British singles chart, reaching number 2 in June, 1986. In 1984 she took part in A Song for Europe, the UK heat of the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song, "Imagination", came 4th.

She was in the video of Rock the Boat sung by Forrest in 1983 (originally sung by The Hues Corporation in 1974).

She returned to the music charts with "So Macho" , which was produced by J.G. Hargreaves and Mick Parker. "Toy Boy" (number 4 July 1987 UK SAW), "G.T.O." (number 15 Dec 1987 UK SAW) and "Cross My Broken Heart"(number six UK March 1988 SAW)) were also European hits.

The writing and production team of Stock Aitken Waterman described Sinitta as the "sexiest voice we ever produced".[citation needed] The hit "Right Back Where We Started From" went to number 4 in the UK in June 1989, followed by "Love On A Mountain Top" (number 20 UK Oct 1989) and "Hitchin' A Ride" (number 24 UK Apr 1990).

SAW's influence declined in the 1990s and so did Sinitta's fame. She chose a different style and recorded the "Supremes EP" (1993) and the album "Naughty Naughty" (1995), which contained Motown covers. "Love and affection" (1990) is a song by Joan Armatrading, while "Aquarius" (1993) came from the musical Hair, a London revival of which featured Sinitta alongside John Barrowman, and in which she appeared naked. Sinitta's mother had acted in an earlier production.

In 1997 Sinitta's vocals were used for the single, "You Can Do Magic" by the fictitious group The Mojams. The single, produced by her former producers, Mike Stock and Matt Aitken, was part of a television investigation by Roger Cook into the rigging of the UK charts[citation needed]. It was alleged that a chart position could be achieved by false sales. Debbie Currie, daughter of the former government health minister, Edwina Currie was used as the face for the singer and single. Sinitta was not credited on the single.

Also in 1997, Sinitta replaced Irene Cara to tour with Sonia Evans (also a former SAW artist) and Luke Goss (former Bros- who replaced, actor Felice Arena) in the rock and pop musical's concert, What A Feeling (1997).

Sinitta has been working with PMG[1] producers, Carl M. Cox & Nathan Thomas, with whom she has recorded a new version of her 80s hit "Toy Boy" to mark its 21st Anniversary, as well as working on new material (some of which she has co-written) for a future album.

On September 1st 2007 Sinitta showcased "Toy Boy '08" at a special concert to commemorate the reunion of SAW at the Nightingale club in Birmingham.

Sinitta acted in the 1986 movie Foreign Body, and later appeared in Heaven's A Drag/To Die For (1994) and There's Only One Madonna (2001).

Sinitta worked on The X Factor show as a stylist and in May 2005 performed on Hit Me Baby One More Time on ITV.

In 2006 Sinitta's competed on Sky TV's Cirque De Celebrité and returned for the third series of The X Factor, as part of Simon Cowell's mentoring team.

In spring 2007, Sinitta teamed, as a judge, with theatre veteran David Ian, producer and media pundit, David Gest and choreographer Brian Friedman on ITV's musical talent search series, Grease Is The Word. Co-produced by Simon Cowell's Syco TV - the same people behind The X Factor and ...Got Talent - the show sought to cast Sandy Dumbrowski and Danny Zuko for a new West End production of Grease.

Sinitta has also had a cameo appearance on popular day time soap, Neighbours, appeared as a panellist on Never Mind The Buzzcocks and was even parodied on the comedy show, Star Stories.

Sinitta is currently working with Simon Cowell again, as a mentor on series 4 of The X Factor, working with the 'Groups' category. Previously on the X Factor Sinitta has worked on:

Series 1 (2004): Over 25's (Won the competition with Steve Brookstein). Series 2 (2005): Groups (Came third in the competition with Journey South). Series 3 (2006): 16-24's (Won the competition with Leona Lewis).

Sinitta is married to the businessman Andy Willner. She was Simon Cowell's former girlfriend and fiance. She also had a two-year relationship with Hollywood actor Brad Pitt during the 1980s. When questioned about her relationship, she replied:

"I think I was too wild for him! I was really young and at the peak of my career and I didn't want to sit and be romantic and eat dinner at home. "He was a lot more chilled and I think he was a bit taken aback by the things that I was doing. Like if I was hungry, I would open a bottle of champagne from my fridge because I certainly wasn't going to cook." I think he looked after me more than I looked after him. But I didn't want to be looked after too much. I didn't want another mother."[2]

In November 2005, Sinitta announced that a woman named Kerry West was to be a surrogate mother for her baby with her husband, Andy Willner. She made the announcement on the British programme This Morning. At eight weeks into the surrogacy, however, West suffered a miscarriage. She had been carrying twins. Sinitta and Willner have now decided to adopt two infants.[3]
