76ERS TO HONOR PHILLY’S OWN PATTI LABELLE AND MUSIQ SOULCHILD ON FEBRUARY 20

Philadelphia, PA - February 19, 2008 The Philadelphia 76ers will honor two renowned Philadelphia musicians for their positive work in the community, as the organization recognizes Patti LaBelle as the “76ers Hometown Hero Award” and presents Musiq Soulchild with the “76ers Gamble and Huff Humanitarian Award” on Wednesday, February 20 when they take on the New York Knicks.

To celebrate the festive evening, “Patti’s Boom Boom Choir,” the group coached by LaBelle on NBC’s Clash of the Choirs, will perform during the Macy’s Halftime Show. LaBelle will personally receive the award at the Wachovia Center at the end of the first quarter for her commitment to charitable causes and community outreach through her significant philanthropic efforts in the Greater Philadelphia Region.

More than a world-renown musician, LaBelle’s work as a humanitarian is legendary. She supports multiple charities including Elevate Hope Foundation, Lisa Lopes Foundation, the American Red Cross, and the HollyRod Foundation. She has served as a spokesperson for the American Diabetic Association, the national Minority AIDS Council’s “Live Long Sugar” campaign, and the National Cancer Institute. Her “Patti LaBelle Medical Education Scholarship Fund” is administered through the National Media Association.

Musiq Soulchild will receive the 76ers Gamble and Huff Humanitarian Award during the second quarter for giving back to his hometown of Philadelphia. He took his song “Give More Love” (off of his Gold selling album Soulstar) to a new level by name his own birthday of September 16 “Give More Love Day.” On his 30th birthday in 2007, Musiq delivered over $1,500 worth of toys and visited every room at St. Christopher’s Hospital. In the evening, he hosted a concert at the Electric Factory to gather donations for a men’s shelter and honor local youth on stage for their work in the community.

In the spirit of the “Sounds of Philly Night at the 76ers,” local choirs will compete throughout the game in the 76ers version of “Clash of the Choirs.”

Tickets for the Sixers vs. Knicks game at 7 p.m. are still available via Sixers.com or calling ComcastTIX at 1-800-298-4200.
