'''Marie Čermínová''' (September_21 1902, Prague – November_9 1980, Paris), known as '''Toyen''', was a Czech painter, draftsman and illustrator, a member of the surrealist movement.
From 1919 to 1920 she attended the School of Fine Arts in Prague. In the early 1920s she journeyed to Paris, and there became associated with André_Breton. Upon returning to her native Prague, she helped found the Czech_Surrealist_Group.
Forced underground during the Nazi occupation and Second_World_War, she fled to Paris before the Communist takeover of Czechoslovakia (1948). She worked with Breton and Benjamin_Péret.
