This is an alternative (and more fun for Jenova fans) viewpoint on Jenova's involvement in the plot of FF7, which I suppose technically counts as fanfiction. Enjoy. =D

~ ~ ~

Jenova is a very intelligent alien who, by some means or another, acquires the Black Materia. She starts thinking about what would happen if she were to use it, and reaches the same conclusion as the Cetra and, later on, Sephiroth did - i.e., the same thing as is depicted by the murals in the Temple of the Ancients. She thinks to herself something along the lines of, "hmm. Wouldn't it be cool to be a God?" and decides to use the Black Materia to put her plan into action.

Jenova uses the Black Materia to summon Meteor, and realises that the Cetra aren't likely to be too happy about her plan. She knows that she will have to figure out away to put the Cetra out of the picture, so she creates and spreads a virus which turns them all insane. However, a few of them survive and manage to seal her away within the Planet - in the process pinching the Black Materia and hiding it in the Temple of the Ancients. Crafty little buggers. The coming of Meteor is delayed for some reason (perhaps it needs constant energy from whoever cast it?) and the world is at peace for two thousand years. That is, until Gast and Hojo arrive and find Jenova's body trapped within a geological stratum deep beneath the ground.

Jenova's body, still in female form from when she was a human, is dug up and used for all the experiments in the Jenova Project. It is then moved to the Mako Reactor near Nibelheim. Sephiroth arrives, thinking Jenova is his mother, and takes off her head - although why the hell he would do this to his own mother remains a mystery. However, this doesn't seem to be a real problem for Jenova - she can survive without her noggin, somehow. Her body is then moved to Midgar, from where Sephiroth subsequently steals it - the head and body are reunited once more, and Jenova is at full strength again.

Since being discovered by Gast and Hojo, Jenova's cells have been implanted into tens (possibly even hundreds) of subjects in the Jenova Project. This, rather conveniently, gives Jenova her own little private army of people who she can puppet and exercise full control over - including the metaphorical head of said army, Sephiroth.

Jenova realises that she can use Sephiroth to do her bidding - he'll do whatever she says, since he believes she's his mother. After making him give her a brief foot rub, she instructs him to pop over to the Temple of the Ancients and get back the Black Materia for her. Conveniently enough, Cloud and co. have just acquired it - so Jenova uses a bit of mind control on Cloud and makes him hand it over to Sephiroth. He dutifully returns it to Jenova, who begins to collect the mana she'll need to complete the casting of Meteor.

Now that Cloud and the rest of the party have reached the end of their usefulness, Jenova sends Sephiroth to kill Aeris before she casts Holy. Jenova herself then shows up, having morphed into a super-huge and uber-powerful being, to dispatch the rest of the party. Unfortunately, they are stronger than she expected and she has to pull out - but before she leaves, she takes the opportunity to have a little chat with Cloud, who she thinks is hot. Sadly her chat up line needs a bit of work, but she still succeeds in getting into Cloud's thoughts... although for all the wrong reasons.

Later, Jenova decides to hold a little party for all of her puppets. Nothing fancy, just a quiet evening with some cheese and wine and lots of sixties music. She decides to hold the party in a nice accessible place, the middle of a Crater in what is essentially the North Pole. No problem, she thinks - I'll just call on the puppets and they'll go wherever I tell them to. Plus, the place was cheaper than renting the party hall in Midgar.

Slowly but surely, the puppets start to arrive at the Reunion. However, Jenova - either tipsy, PMS-ing or possibly both - gets tired of waiting and gets Sephiroth to kill anyone who is late. Lo and behold, Cloud and co. turn up expecting some free entertainment - fine, Jenova thinks. She sends Sephiroth to take care of them, but he just toys with them and runs away. "If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself;" Jenova thinks. She morphs into a slightly more pathetic version of her last battle form, and trundles off to kill the party. Sadly they defeat her again, so she flies off to recuperate while watching Ally McBeal and gorging herself on Ben & Jerry's.

Eventually, Cloud and the rest of the party arrive at the Northern Crater for the final showdown. Jenova, slightly miffed that the rest of her battle outfits haven't been very successful, transforms herself into a 78,000 HP blob with wavy tentacles and a killer rack. After slapping her enemies about a bit with the aforementioned tentacles, she gets bored and drops Ultima on them before leaving it up to her not-really-son to finish the job. She doesn't really care what happens, since she's tired and bored and there's a hot cup of cocoa with her name on it back home.

At this point, Jenova retires to a small but cosy Planet somewhere in outer space. It has an unlimited supply of Mako energy and all the other mod-cons a human-turned-space-alien could want, including a deluxe set of FF7 action figures with strings attached to their heads and limbs. Jenova lives happily ever after, for the rest of eternity.

The End.
