Self-Drive suggestions

Bush in Brisbane city

Even if you don’t travel far, get away from the pace of the city in Brisbane’s forests. Bushwalk, barbeque or birdwatch in one of the protected pockets of bushland in our city.

Hinterland heaven

Not far from the city are hinterland hideaways, including Samford and Dayboro in the Pine Rivers area or Mount Nebo & Mount Glorious. On the Sunshine Coast, the mountain towns of Maleny, Montville and Mapleton provide a wonderfully cool escape.

Surf beaches

Head north for the day to the Sunshine Coast or south to the Gold Coast and enjoy the sun and surf in Queensland's perfect climate.

Islands of paradise

Take a trip over the waters of Moreton Bay to visit our local islands. It’s an easy trip to Bribie Island, over the bridge. Ferries will get you and your car to either North Stradbroke Island (known as Straddie to locals) or Tangalooma on Moreton Island for a natural holiday destination. Surf, fish, swim and take it easy.

Redlands and Bayside

Get your feet wet on daytrips that take you to some delightful spots beside Moreton Bay. There’s the birdlife at Boondall Wetlands and Sandgate, a stroll along the jetty at Redcliffe, the history and colourful markets of Wellington Point and Cleveland, plus parks and bike paths galore along the waterfront at Wynnum Manly. Breezes, views and fish & chips are available on all day trips to the Bayside.

West of Brisbane

Drive towards the sunset when you discover the rural charms of Boonah and the Lockyer Valley. Ipswich is a bustling city with a lot of history. Further afield, there’s the Valley of the Lakes, Esk.
