The
Museum of Modern Art's publications program has been an integral
part of the Museum's mission since its founding. Most of the Museum's
exhibitions are accompanied by catalogues that exemplify the scholarship
of the Museum's staff and associates and have proven to be valuable
reference sources for a breadth of subjects in modern and contemporary
art. These richly illustrated volumes provide an enduring and lasting
record of the Museum's diverse exhibitions program. In addition
to exhibition catalogues, the Museum also publishes scholarly texts
on key works and artists featured in its incomparable collection
of modern and contemporary art.
The Museum of Modern Art has published almost
1,000 titles and foreign editions since 1929. In order to facilitate
your search, the titles have been divided into lists of out-of-print
and currently
available titles. Please refer to the appropriate category for
your needs (bookstore,
individual,
library)
and follow the instructions for availability and ordering.
The Museum publishes ten to twenty new
titles, reprints, foreign editions and historic facsimile reprints
per year. In total, approximately 100 Museum editions are maintained
in print through either the MoMA
Stores, the MoMA
Online Store, or through commercial bookstores worldwide.
Depending on the outlet for the Museum's books, the list of available
titles varies widely. The
Complete List of Recent MoMA Titles is a comprehensive listing
of all in print MoMA titles that might be available through a
Museum store, a bookstore, or a distributor (foreign or domestic).
If the title is available, follow the appropriate ordering instructions.
Members receive discounts on Museum titles purchased through MoMA stores.
Inevitably, a large number of the historic
MoMA titles are out-of-print. Please note that this is not yet
a complete list of all MoMA out-of-print
titles since 1929. There are many online, out-of-print book
search companies such as Abebooks.com
and Alibris.com
that may be able to locate out-of-print books, including certain
MoMA titles. The Museum cannot endorse any out-of-print book search
firm and does not share in any proceeds resulting from transactions
with any such organization. The Museum provides this information
only as a resource to help individuals interested in locating
historic Museum of Modern Art publications.
