The goddess Hel – daughter of Loki, Norse God of mischief, has been banished from the heavenly kingdom of Asgard for defying Odin's rule. Angry at her fate, she seeks to release the ancient wolf-god Fenrir which legend tells will bring about Ragnarok - the apocalyptic battle that will destroy Asgard and the Gods. With her army of resurrected Viking warriors, Hel marches on the unsuspecting mortal realm of Midgard.
Odin's daughter Freya, goddess of love and wisdom, is appointed the task of stopping Hel and defending the future of mankind. For her champion she chooses Skarin, a great but troubled young warrior, ignorant of the true reason for his favour with the Gods and thrust into the midst of their bitter war.
As Skarin, players will experience unparalleled battle scenes, leading the charge in a titanic clash between powerful gods and mere men. War on an unprecedented scale will rage across a beautifully realised Viking landscape. Vast, living islands, free form worlds filled with discovery, stealth, brutal combat and culminating in epic battles the like of which have never been seen on console before.
- The story of a Viking Hero. Skarin is an uncompromising force. A plaything of the gods rebelling against their selfish agenda. The definitive Viking warrior.
- Rich Viking Lore. The violent and glorious world of Viking mythology brought to stunning life. Players will write their own legends to be told around the campfire.
- Vast open world environments. Explore, uncover and fight your way across huge next gen worlds full of combat, exploration and quests.
- High impact, brutal combat engine. Experience intensely physical melee combat. Dismember enemies with deadly combat moves in a whirlwind of death.
- Mythical Powers. Tame dragons and command them to rain fire upon your enemies. Call on magic and the power of the gods to win the mortal war.
- Free your people. Liberate your Viking kinsmen from the clutches of Hel. Earn their trust and their sword arm. Fight alongside them in battle.
- Epic Battles. Lay the foundations for huge battles featuring hundreds of dynamic NPC warriors. Subtly influence the battle through targeted assassination or wade in to save stricken allies. Become one amongst many and turn the tide in favour of your kinsmen.

Bloody, visceral goodness! This is the best way to describe Viking: Battle for Asgard. Viking is a third-person, arm cutting, head flying romp through the legends of Norse Mythology. You start off as the should-be-dead hero Skarin who is saved from the halls of Valhalla by the Norse goddess of love. She commissions you to build an army that will compete against Hel’s Legion Army. The games starts a bit slow as you find your self wandering around to find the right person to talk to, but once the gates to the rest of the world are opened the game takes to its true form. You are given tasked to follow which primarily consist of going to small camps of Legion militias and proceeding to dismember the enemy like a holiday turkey. For example, you sneak into a camp where ten of your Viking allies are held captive in a rib bone cage. You can either sneak around to find the best angle to open the cage so you buddies can assist you or you can go in, sword and axe swing and paint your steel with ...[More]

This is the worst game I've played on the PS3 system. I went and bought this game the first day it came out and took it back with in 30 minutes of playing. Everything about this game is just terrible and I mean everything. I thought finally a cool game about Vikings and I was so let down, so I got Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and it blows this game out of the water. The game play of this game...[More] |

Gameplay: Camera controls are great, and rarely need adjusting. Hacking and slashing is fairly easy, though most of your attacks have short range. You must use tactical offense and defense, you can't just attack and expect to stay alive. Make use of blocking, and then strike. You start off with a pretty limited number of attacks, but as you progress through the game you learn more moves. So the mo...[More] |
