[edit] Revisiting the issue of galleries

I'd like to revisit the issue of gallery pages. I can see why we need them, in some instances (See Garfield/Gallery), but I really hate the way we are implementing them. I'll address my concerns in an ordered list.

  1. The {{gallery}} template is ugly, huge, and very distracting.
  2. Why /Gallery? Personally, I'd prefer it if it was simply Articlename Gallery (ala Wikipedia Admin Gallery. Fuck subpages.
  3. We need captions, even if it's something as dull as Desu. No caption = fail.
  4. The gallery should have a brief header describing the meme and/or concept that we have tonnes of immages for, and an obvious link back to the article in question.

    • Ugh. Do not want. Subpages really aren't that hawt, and don't make for great organization, except for in userspace and talk page archives. We already have a Category:Galleries, which, IMO, is pretty much all the organization we need, unless someone felt compelled to make another navigational template. I'd rather avoid subpages, because they always struck me as rather pointless. A psuedo-namespace might be relatively neat (ie, Gallery:Garfield), but I'm really not too thrilled with that concept either. Related to today's events, but been thinking of it a while.... I really hate pages about bands. Bands have nothing to do with internets. If they DO, like Metallica, or like My Chemical Romance which every MySpace girl listens to, or something like that, then that's cool, but having a million pages of "lol this band sucks!" is really, really unfunny. Why is there a whole article about Abba and jack shit about Lemon Demon, who is an internet phenomenon? But it says "the email [my email address] has reached it's maximum user usage of 1". So I was going to try my uni address but wasn't sure of the spelling so went to check but the webmail was down so decided to sort it out when I got back from work. Now I'm back and I can't connect to the damn server again! Comes up with the same message I had before. And in reply to Krade, I'm using miranda IRC and the only input data I've been messing with is "full name(email)", Nick, alt. nick, User ID(ident). Template:Editing I thought this might come in use, considering how much people watch Recent Changes. If you're in the middle of a new article/policy (for admins) this can tell people to hold off for a sec. Reasons might be "new article", "new policy", "adding lotsa gallery pics", or "expanding crap stub" or anything that might be more conveninet to do multiple edits to "save" your work along the way. I think the one for Wikia is safe, though. Wikia gets tons of linkspam, so they have to keep their spam blocklist trimmed so there shouldn't have stuff there just because an admin hates it. I think ED's spam list doesn't even block sites like tinyurl.com, which are used to bypass spam filters. RoundHouseKickToTheFace 03:40, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
