Join Brisbane’s biggest, beautiful birthday party.
2 – 4 May 2008
South Bank Parklands
Come along and bring the family to the 12th annual Buddha Birth Day Festival at South Bank. There’s heaps to see and do with 300 performers, two performance stages, children’s amusement area, lots of delicious vegetarian food stalls, an art exhibition and various workshops.
The fun starts midday Friday 2 May and finishes Sunday evening 4 May 2008.
For a unique experience, participate in the very popular Bathing Buddha Ceremony, open to everyone in Suncorp Piazza. This ceremony runs across the three days of the festival.
Some other highlights include watching the always loud and incredibly energetic lion dances, seeing multicultural performances or admiring the traditional Chinese arts and crafts demonstrations. On Saturday and Sunday nights the whole family will love the riverfront fireworks displays.
The festival is open and welcoming to everyone and Brisbane’s party will be the largest annual Buddha Birth Day Festival in the world. Join the 150 000 people expected to come along to South Bank for a peaceful and harmonious weekend, and take part in the free birthday celebrations.
The event launches with the planting of a sacred Bodhi tree on the lawns of the Gallery of Modern Art. And there is also a month-long photographic display of Buddhist traditions by Brisbane photographer Anthony Anderton in the Tony Gould Gallery at QPAC: One Road Many Paths is free, and runs from 29 April to 30 May.
